Pandora is a online service that finds similar music to an artist, album or genre that you specify and which creates your unique radio station that plays the related titles. Unfortunatly it´s only available on their website and not in music players like winamp. Until now, that is.

You need the latest version of Winamp (5.21 at the moment). All you need to do is browse to the winamp directory, enter the plugins/ml/ folder and edit the file “ml_online.ini”. Find the line that contains “ElementID7=-1” and replace it with the following lines:

Google Trends has been live for a few days and it´s time to play around with this new google service and find out what it´s all about. By entering one or more search terms you see a graph that shows the search volume and the news reference volume for about two years. This in itself isn´t that exciting but the feature to compare results by searching for multiple terms is. You could for instance compare linux distributions or windows, linux and macintosh.

All you need to do is enter one or more search terms seperated by commas and google will process the request and display the results. If there have been enough searches for the term. The results also show which cities, regions and languages did the most searches for the terms.

Rootkits have been in the press lately and it´s a good idea to be on the safe side and check your system from time to time to make sure it is not infected. I´am going to introduce two freeware utilities that scan your system and reveal rootkits if they are installed and running on your system.

The first tool is called rootkit hook analyzer, the second one rootkit revealer. Both are great tools and easy to use. You probably have to do some research on the web after one or both of the tools scanned your system. You have to interpretate the output, the website that can help you with this is either the rootkit revealer homepage which has a short introduction on interpretating the output or the rootkit.com website which has lots of information on the subject.

Many people consider themselves to be very secure when they are surfing the internet and that very well may be true. However, there are some things that are often forgotten about. The one thing is the cookie. This is not speaking about the edible version with chocolate chips, but instead the file that a good many web sites across the internet that put onto your system that tell the site that you have visited before and what you have done.

A cookie is the way that a web site can remember the user name and password of a person so they will not have to log in each time they visit the site. This is a matter of ease of operation and some people do enjoy this feature in many cases because they do not have to spend so much time typing in the information. The cookie will also tell the site the areas that you visited and the different things that you have done.
