If you are using linux you might know the symbolic link functionality which allows you to create a (symbolic) link between two directories. A little freeware tool called junction from sysinternals adds this functionality to windows.
Five freeware tools everyone should try out
I´d like to present five freeware tools that everyone should at least take a look at and try out. They are not the “normal” freeware applications that you find in every top ten list like firefox and open office. I write about tools that many users don´t know but would be grateful if they knew they existed. Please be aware that this is my top ten list and that your´s most likely would have different applications in it.
Gmail Xp
Google Mail is a great mail service with a slight flaw that every web based email service has: You can´t add the mail to your offline email client. I don´t like this at all, it´s always nicer to have all recieved and send emails in an offline client for faster access. GmailXp is one of those freeware tools that offer you this. It has a long list of features, for instance a notification if a new mail arrived in your inbox. Lets take a look at some of the features in detail:
TorPark
You probably already heard about Tor, if not you might want to take a look at the tor website hosted by the electronic frontier foundation. Tor is basically a freeware application that anonymises your internet traffic by routing every request through a chain of encrypted servers. There are that many chains that no server does know the source of the request and at the same time the destination. The destination only recognises the request from the Tor server, means your ip is not revealed in that progress.
SmartPc Recovery Tools
Sometimes you delete something and realize later that you still need the file(s) that you´ve deleted before. Its easy to recover them if they are still in your trashbin, but you need special tools to recover files that have been deleted permanently under windows.
Smart Ftp 2.0
The free ftp software Smart Ftp 2.0 has been released and is available for download at the developers website. Changes include a new graphical user interface with tabs, a new local and remote browser and support for 64 bit windows operating systems. If you are looking for a free ftp program give it a try, it might be exactly what you are looking for.
