    Open accidentally closed programs again

I think it happens to everyone every now and then. We try to close an application and another one pops up in that moment and we accidentally close this one that we did not want to close at all. This meant that we had to open this program again while clenching our fists to trying not to cry out loud about this goddamn incident.

Reveal Passwords behind asterisks in Internet Explorer

What was the password again for that website ? I bet you have asked that question numerous times, I know that I did. I’m not that good at remembering passwords and it happens that one slips under the radar and I have troubles remembering it. This is not such a huge problem in Firefox with its Password Manager that reveals all passwords that you have saved before but it could be on in Internet Explorer.

        What is skypePM.exe doing ?

Whenever you start Skype, which loads the process Skype.exe, another process named skypePM.exe is loaded. SkypePM.exe is the Plugin Manager of Skype that is always loaded during the start of Skype even if you are not using a single plugin in Skype. This is not really efficient considering that this process uses 15+ Megabytes of RAM for doing nothing at all.

Ways to open Office .docx documents

How do I open .docx files was an article that I wrote some time ago. It explained how users that did not use Microsoft Office 2007 were able to open .docx documents that they downloaded or received from users who were using Office 2007. Some time has passed since writing the initial article and I thought it would be nice to take a look at more methods and programs that let users open. docx documents.

            Malwarebytes Anti-Malware

If you ask computer users about the anti-spyware software that they have installed to protect their system they will most likely name Spybot Search and Destroy or Ad-Aware. Those are the most commonly used anti-spyware programs. Some would probably name Windows Defender from Microsoft or Spyware Terminator or some commercial products.

                The best Software of 2007

Instead of just listing the software that I would pick as the best software of 2007 I thought it would be a nice addition if we would decided on it together. Everyone may participate and we count the votes at the end of this year and I create the list of the best software of 2007.

Use MPUI as a Portable Media Player

When it comes to media players, there’s no doubt in my mind that Mplayer is head and shoulders above the rest. In fact, I think it’s even better than VLC. The only drawback is that Mplayer is primarily a Linux player, which means it depends on command line instructions. Luckily, there are a whole lot [...]

Sync Microsoft Documents with Google Docs automatically

Docsyncer was mentioned on the Digital Inspiration blog as a service that automatically synced Microsoft documents such as doc and xls with the Google Docs web service. This can be incredible helpful if you do use Microsoft Office and Google Docs. This could for instance be the case if you upload your Word or Excel documents to Google Docs to be able to work with them on a different computer.

Cryptload makes downloading from Rapidshare even easier

Rapidshare is one of the biggest file hosters on the web and has a remarkably confusing interface and system that confuses many users at the same time. This could have been designed to be this way on purpose to up-sell premium accounts to users who do not want to wait before they can download a file from Rapidshare.

Copy Music from iPod to a Computer

If you are looking for a quick way to copy music from your Apple iPod to a computer you might find the software iPod Folder which is available for Windows and Mac more than suitable. Users can start the transfer of the music with just three clicks. The first click selects the iPod that is connected to the computer, the second click selects the destination folder on the computer and the third finally starts the transfer of the music.

                          iTunes Folder Watch

Apple iTunes has no way of detecting new music additions to your music folders which means that you have to add them from within iTunes manually to be able to play them in the software or sync them with your iPod music player.

                              Download Windows Vista SP1 RC1

The registry tweaks to download previous versions Windows Vista Service Pack 1 do not longer have the desired results because Microsoft is already distributing the release candidate 1 of Windows Vista SP1 using Windows Update. The old keys that have been added to the Registry previously have to be removed and new keys have to be added.

                                Is Orbitnet.exe spyware ?

A reader send me an email last night asking if I had any information about the orbitnet.exe process that was started when Orbit Downloader was active. Zonealarm would describe the process as “P2P service of Orbit Downloader” and that seemed to have rang some alarm bells because P2P services are often used as spyware.

                                  Software Updates Week 49 2007

Wednesday is the day of the week where I look back at the software updates of the last seven days and put them all in one huge article that helps everyone keep up to date with software that has been updated. Only software that was mentioned before here at Ghacks is listed in the article, everything else received its own article anyway and will be included in later articles.

                                    Share iTunes and Winamp music

Both iTunes and Winamp offer a way to share music with your friends although their implementation is rather limited. Apples iTunes software shares music only with users that are within the same network while Winamp Remote offers a way to listen to Winamp from a website.

Add Filters to the Windows Common File Dialog

You might have cursed the developers of Notepad for instance if you ever tried to open a file in Notepad with a different extension than .txt. Notepad can only filter file lists for txt files or display all files. If you were looking for a php or htm file for instance you had to display all files in that folder and search for the file that you wanted to open.

Mouser of Donation Coder was so nice to email me informing me about the results of a little coding challenge that they had in November. The Getting Organized 2007 Programming Challenge was to write a computer program (or web service) which helps people be more productive with their time that had not been published prior to November 2007.
