Photo portals like Flickr and image galleries have seen a revival in the last years which can be largely attributed to the market gain of digital cameras. Everyone seems to have at least one digital camera or mobile phone with a camera and many are looking for ways to easily publish their pictures on their own website.

Most users prefer an automatic solution where they only have to select the images that they want to include. The whole coding would be done by the application which has the advantage that it’s faster and more convenient.

Moba Photo provides such a solution for the photo enthusiast. The photo software provides four functions: Batch photo resizing, batch picture editing, batch picture renamer and finally the digital gallery creator. The first three are useful for editing the photos before the gallery is created. Each of the three image manipulation sections provides a user friendly interface.

The Windows System Tray clock does not provide many ways to customize its appearance and format. The only two options that are available are to display the clock - or not - and to change the time. The position of the taskbar changes the information that the clock is displaying. The clock will only display the time on a horizontal Taskbar and provide date information when the user moves the mouse over the clock.

A vertical taskbar on the other hand displays the time, date and the weekday in the system tray. The best way to create a custom solution would be to use a third party tool like Timekeeper which can fully replace the Windows clock. Timekeeper adds itself to the available Toolbars of the Taskbar which can be selected by right-clicking the taskbar.

The Windows clock can be disabled in the same right-click menu as well. Timekeeper basically can display date and time information in multiple ways to suite the needs of the user. It comes with predefined time and date formats that can be added with just a click and custom ones where the user can pick the information that he wants to see.

File Recovery tools are flooding the software market these days and it takes more than to provide a way to recover files to stick out of the masses. Undelete My Files offers several features that make it at least an interesting application to try. The file recovery is obviously the dominating component of the software. Hard Disks can be scanned which usually does not take longer than a few seconds - depending on the size of the hard drive - and the results are displayed afterward. One interesting aspect of this procedure is that multiple hard disks can be selected at once. Most other tools scan hard disks on a per disk basis only.

Another interesting aspect of that scan for deleted files is the option to preview items before they are recovered. Every file can be marked and a click on the preview button opens the file in the default viewer. It becomes pretty obvious if a file can be recovered, chances are slim if the default viewer cannot open it. If the file displays fine on the other hand chances are good that it can be recovered without difficulties.

Undelete My Files provides access to two specialized recovery operations: Media and Mail Recovery. Both target specific files and try to recover them. The advantage of using Media Recovery is that it specifically targets multimedia files offering a preview pane for quick file previews.

It is only natural that some users use their Apple iPhone or iPod Touch as a portable device that stores files. The disk space of the Apple devices are definitely large enough to provide room for some additional files. Not necessarily pictures, music or other multimedia files but maybe documents or executable files that are essential to the user.

Disk Aid can transfer files between a computer running Windows or Mac OSX and an iPhone or iPod Touch. My older iPod Nano was not recognized by the software which means that it is most likely only working with the two devices mentioned above. A supported device is recognized automatically by the application. It reminds the user to install iTunes if that software is not installed on the local computer.

The application supported the usual file operations like copying files from and to the iPhone or iPod Touch, creating folders, deleting files, renaming and even copying folders with their contents.

It can come quite handy sometimes to access the bookmarks as fast as possible to be able to visit a website without delay. A fast and convenient way is to add an icon to the system tray that provides access to all of the bookmarks. One software that provides that functionality is Links 2 Tray which sits in the tray quietly until the icon is left-clicked.

The bookmarks are then displayed in the usual order including submenus. A left-click on a bookmark opens that bookmark. The real beauty of Links 2 Tray is that it provides access to bookmarks of all three major browsers. The configuration provides settings for Internet Explorer’s Favorites, Firefox’s Bookmarks.html file and Opera.

Firefox changed the way bookmarks are handled with Firefox 3 which means that the user should export the bookmarks into html format once in a while to be able to use them in Links 2 Tray.
