At least in England. According to the english newspaper The Herald a man named Nigel Roberts sued the company Media Logistics (UK) Ltd which sent him unwanted emails.

He was able to take actions under the Directive on Privacy and Telecommunications, a European Union law allowing spam victims to claim damage.

It seems he recieved only two mails from the company which he first tried to contact asking for an apology and claiming damages. He further asked for information stored about himself and the way his email made it into their database. They refused and a judge ruled in favor of Mr. Roberts.

There are several ways to save a website and they largely depend on your needs. If you only want to save textual information you could be finished by a simple copy and paste job. If you want to preserve the links you need to save it as html. Most browsers have the option to save a website locally but what if you need more than one page or would like the information of the links as well ?

You could open every website and save it. This has some disadvantages. First, there is no link structure between the saved pages. If you want to open page 1 you have to find the index file for page 1 which is different from all other pages. Its great for single pages but not great for entire websites or networks.

I know that this has been in the news for some days but some of you probably have not heard about it, christmas is stress, you know. You can use the google translate feature to visit webpages that are blocked in your country. For example germans are not allowed to visit stormfrontdotorg or rottendotcom and could use this proxy to visit this sites.

The technique is simple, use the following url:

http://www.google.com/translate?langpair=en|en&u=www.yoursiteinhere.com

Change yoursiteinhere.com to the site you would like to visit and it will display. It does not completly hide your ip, so if you are banned you won´t be able to visit this site.

Now this article over at tomshardware.com comes in handy. I told you yesterday how to encrypt your hard drives with the great true crypt freeware and recommended that everything would be encrypted and the system would be booted from usb.

The article gives a 14 pages tutorial on how to create bootable windows operating system on a 256 MB usb stick. You can of course use a bigger one and add more utilities that you need (like true crypt for example). Everything is well explained, you should not encounter lots of problems.
