I thought it would be nice to lift the curtain a little bit and provide everyone with information on what’s going on behind the scenes at Ghacks hence this new column which will be published monthly from now on. I’m pretty happy with the development of the last months, heck the whole year. The subscriber rate already jumped to a solid 7000 subscribers which means we are only 3000 short of reaching the 10000 subscriber goal of this year with 9 months to go, that sounds doable, don’t you think ?

Another exciting news is that I’m currently in talks with a t-shirt company to produce some cool looking Ghacks Tees, if everything works out we are soon going to see them live here and in their store [Splitreason, check them out if you like].

Once the first batch is done I’m going to hold a little contest were participants can win a t-shirt. Wear it proud guys, hehe. That reminds me. If you are are a talented designer with a unique style feel free to produce some t-shirt designs and send them over to me.

I did receive another email today asking me about my Facebook user name. I never put much thought into joining Facebook or any other hyped web community. The main reason for this was the question about the why. Why should I join Facebook ? Only to show everyone a list of my friends, to show them what I’m doing ? Will it turn out to be a “I’ve got more friends than you thing” in the end ?

I decided to join Facebook today despite my doubts and am now looking at my Facebook profile. The big question for me is Now What ?

I know that many of you are using Facebook and I would like to know what you are doing on Facebook. Why do you think it’s cool to join and use. What can I do there despite adding new friend, joining groups and networks ? Is there some real value hidden somewhere that’s not obvious to me at this point ?

I’m happy to announce that I’m still able to offer several free magazine subscriptions to you in the form of downloads. You can take a look at the main page to look through all available options or use any of the picks below. They have been handpicked by myself and are all free to subscribe to and download.

Some magazines are only available in certain regions, some require additional criteria to be fulfilled. The Website Magazine subscription for instance requires that the subscriber must have an active website. So, everything is reasonable, just make sure you read everything thoroughly. Each subscription requires that you fill out a small form with information about yourself and some related information.

On to the list, if you have any questions let me know please. There is so much to explore. My suggestion would be to sort for International Eligible Magazine Subscriptions if you do not live in the United States or Canada. Most subscriptions are aimed towards US users.

You might have noticed the survey banners in the sidebar or below posts. Those banners are from a cpm company that require at least 200 filled out surveys before they make targeted and well paying banner campaigns available for that website.

I do not like filling out surveys myself and I can understand everyone who does not want to fill them out. Yet, I would like to ask for your help in reaching the 200 survey limit (I have 20 currently) so that I get access to the targeted campaigns.

The survey consists of just a few click-through questions that take about a minute to answer. Many of the questions do not have to be answered, for instance about the household income and the survey does not ask for personal information that can be used to identify you.

You might have noticed the bar at the top of my blog, the one that begins with Grand Effect. I was approached some time ago by Sarah if I wanted to be a co-founder of a new blog network called Grand Effect which would start with a few blogs in February. I liked the idea from the beginning and decided to join the blog network.

Grand Effect is mainly used to promote the blogs of the network and will grow over time. It will never be a blog network with hundreds of websites, at least that’s not in the plans that we have with that network. I would not rule it out completely though.
