After taking a look at the latest set of devices and gadgets to make it to the market, one thing is becoming clear. We are in desperate need of some gadget standards. You know the type of standards we currently have for automobiles, such as every car uses between 12” and 20” tires. All have [...]

gOS Gadgets: An Operating System for the Google Generation

Over the years I have seen the operating sytem evolve into and out of various types of fads. Most recently the operating system has toyed around with the idea of the Cloud as generator for applications and even the operating system itself. It is my thought that a full-blown, wide-spread Cloud-based operating system is a [...]

Txtr Ebook Reader

Ebook readers have become popular since the introduction of Amazon’s Kindle. Amazon’s Kindle 2 will be released next week. There are however other ebook readers that might make more sense for some users. One of the major points of criticism that Amazon’s Kindle has to face is its digital rights management. The Zune: A Review

Yesterday I finally got my Zune 120, all the way to Australia from America through Ebay thanks to Microsoft’s failure to release the Zune internationally at this point. All I can say is it was completely worth it. The bad thing for Microsoft is it’s taken 3 years to get the Zune to meet it’s [...]

Yoggie PICO Personal Mobile Security Computer

Taking security out of the hands of the average user is a good way of increasing system security. That’s my opinion on the matter, the greatest security risk is most of the time the human sitting in front of the computer. The Yoggie Pico is a security device with 13 security applications in USB format that runs Linux and handles all network traffic of the computer.

Eye-Fi Wireless SD Memory Card

My first thought when I heard about the Eye-Fi Wireless SD Memory Card was that no one would be going to need this SD card with build in WiFi but when I read a little bit further my opinion changed from No-one-needs-that to Wow-what-a-great-idea. The Eye-Fi SD cards come in sizes of 1 and 2 Gigabytes, the 2 Gigabyte version sells currently at Amazon for $99.99 which is way more than a SD card without WiFi would cost.

Teac MP-450 by experience

I’d like to share my view of a very fine low-end (maybe mid) personal audio/video player I’ve bought recently, the Teac MP-450. I was lucky enough to get a 40% sale on it in an online store so that I got an awesome player for a really low price, great deal indeed. Nevertheless, even if you have to buy it for the usual price at about 100-130$ (1GB version), it’s still worth the money I would say. Now to the main features.

Gizmodo rep banned from CES after prank

In the article entitled Confessions: The Meanest Thing Gizmodo Did at CES Brian Lam describes how they used a device called TV-B-Gone to turn off television screens at this years CES. They even created a video that is available at their website showing what they did. They did turn off televisions during at least one press conference and numerous presentations and did publish the video on their website.

Hands free reading for lazy bookworms

There are three places where I read a lot. My table while eating, my bed (usually eating as well) and on the John (after eating). I usually struggle in my bed and at my desk because I can’t get the damned book to stay open, or at least be readable while open. So far I’ve [...]

Ask the Readers: PDA Recommendation

I’m planing to purchase a PDA at the end of this year and would like to hear your opinion before I go out and buy something that does not meet my expectations. I never used a PDA before but tried to read about the different operating systems and the like to get a first overview.

Wiimote 3D Widget Desktop

I knew we were going to see more PC and Wiimote mashups this year. After being able to play several shooters on the pc with the remote it was only a matter of time until someone would introduce applications or even a complete user interface utilizing the Wiimote.

Star Wars Home Theater

In a place far away from reality – which happens to be somewhere near Seattle – two Star Wars geeks decided to create the ultimate home theater: A Star Wars Death Star Home Theater. It took them 36 months to complete the project which in my opinion resembles the interior of an Imperial Star Destroyer and not the Death Star.

USB Flash Drive with Capacity Meter

Many users think that usb flash drives are all the same. They look boring and can only be used to plug them into a usb port. The Lexar usb flash drive Jumpdrive Mercury adds one useful function to the usb drive.

Goodbye iPhone – here comes Nalu !

Nalu is practically three devices in one with a very intuitive interface. It is a mobile phone, a media player and a text messaging device. While this does not sound unlike the iPhone or any other smartphone currently available it becomes unique when you realize that it has a double hinged case that provides access to the three different interfaces.

Epoq MP4 Wrist Watch

My immediate reaction to the Epoq MP4 wrist watch was that I thought that it was a really cool idea. I was not able to come up with a lot of applications for it but it looked really cool. The watch acts as a standard music and video player supporting formats such as mp3, wma and mp4.

Pictures can be viewed as well and everything can be uploaded using a normal USB 2.0 port. The mp4 wrist watch comes with different storage capacities, the largest being 2 Gigabytes of space which should be enough for lots of videos in that resolution. There is also the option to choose a widescreen lcd display instead of a normal one.

Convert Web Widgets to Vista Sidebar Gadgets

I have talked to several Windows Vista users and all told me that they did not use the Vista sidebar because of the lack of good gadgets that could be shown there. Sure, some are really nice but the majority is utterly useless. Why would I want another clock in there for instance ?

The Amnesty Generator (Windows, Macintosh) tries to fill this gap by providing a clever way to convert thousands of web widgets to Vista gadgets that can be placed in the sidebar. The program is free and absolutely easy to use. All it needs is the html code of the widget to automatically convert it into a Vista sidebar gadget. The html code is displayed when you select a widget from the many databases that offer them.

Get your own real lightsaber

I always wanted to have one of those lightsabers since the first time that I was watching Star Wars back then when the first movie came out. We used all sorts of replacements like flashlights, sticks and swords to play Star Wars as kids, the rest was done by our imagination. Using those replacements did not make a big difference for us kids but it surely would feel awkward to do this as an adult.

Random Time Wall Clock

If you are looking for a rather unique clock you should take a look at the so called Rnd_Time Infinite Wall Clock. The Rnd_Time stands of course for Random Time but it is not the time that is shown randomly but the placement of the hours on the walls. The hours can be placed randomly on the wall while the clock is still displaying the correct time. It could be hard to tell the time but it sure looks unique. You do get 12 blocks that display the hours from 1 to 12 and another block for the clock hands.

Segatoys Homestar Home Planetarium

I should probably create a new category called Gadgets for Geeks or something like that for this Home Planetarium. It is a Japanese toy created by Segatoys. The device projects the night sky on the ceiling or a wall in your home. I know it is hard to imagine how this would look like but I guarantee you that it looks incredible if your room is darkened. Segatoys actually created several versions of the Home Planetarium which differ in functionality and price.
