Freddie Wong Videos On YouTube
I’m usually not posting funny Youtube videos on my website, there are better sites for that. But I make an exception, this time. I recently discovered Freddie’s channel on YouTube, thanks to a post on Gameokratie. Freddie is a professional video producer at the University of Southern California School of Cinematic Arts. In many of [...]

Track Santa Claus on the Internet this Christmas Eve
They can’t find Osama Bin Laden, they can’t find the leaders of the Taliban, the US military can however track Santa Claus and has been doing so for years (to be honest I’m convinced Santa’s allowing them to do this to prove to all little boys and girls that he really does exist). Yup, the [...]

Tom Scott thought so as well and decided to add visualization to weather reports by linking the weather conditions to a planet in the Star Wars universe. But this website [...]

Add Effects to Your Pictures Using piZap
Photo editors are a dime a dozen, both as software and browser-based apps. Programs like Photoshop and GIMP are far ahead of browser apps in terms of the functionalities they offer. However, once in a while, you come across something that’s worth checking out, even if you normally use feature-rich software. piZap is an online [...]

Elf Yourself Redesigned
Last year, around the same time, we spotted a very interesting service that made it possible to dress five people as elfs and have them perform a dance afterwards. The Elf Yourself craze was born and it quickly became a popular website. On a sidenote, my nephew who was 4 at the time, loved to [...]

Everybody Was Kung Fu Fighting
I’m sometimes amazed what companies do to promote their products in other parts of the world. The local advertisement agencies really seem to lack the esprit to produce advertisements that are fun to watch and that deliver a message. They always seem to go straight to the message and forget that viewers are usually bored [...]

Fake Gift Boxes
I’m pretty astonished that I never heard about fake gift boxes before, at least not ones that you could purchase in stores. IT Crowd Outtakes
The IT Crowd is definitely one of the best British comedy series of the last years. The main actors are Jen, Moss and Roy who run the It department of a fictional British company. While Moss and Roy are your standard It nerds Jen is quite the opposite without any knowledge of computers or technology.
Browse through the List Universe
I like going through top ten lists. I find it fascinating largely because it’s a comparison style. It is nice to check out how people rate events and other people, based on different criteria. Listverse is short for the list universe. It is a site of, you guessed it, lists. Of course, lists on the [...]

Alter all websites in the world
The following is a nice trick that I learned in a webmaster forum. I thought it would be nice to describe it to my readers as well because you can have some fun with it. It allows you to manipulate all elements of a website. You could for instance create number one positions on Google, add your own products to Amazon or write a cover story at CNN.

Elf Yourself
I’m normally not a fan of putting images of people I know on the Internet but I made an exception for the Elf Yourself website. The pictures are still private and not viewable by anyone who does not know the correct link to the set that you have created. But let me start with a short explanation of what Elf Yourself is all about.

Looking for Animated Gifs ? Try Giftube
There are two types of clones of successful website concepts on the web. The first copies the concept and publishes a similar website under a different name, the second copies part of the name and the concept over to another area. Giftube is trying the latter by being the ‘Youtube’ for Gifs, that is small animated graphics.

Zero Punctuation
I recently came upon a series of video game reviews called Zero Punctuation over at the Escapist Magazine which could probably described as reviews in a hurry. Yahtzee Croshaw, the guy doing the reviews, was apparently born with the talent to talk pretty fast which he is doing in those reviews that usually last between three to five minutes.

Did you ever come upon a video which seemed to tell an unbelievable story but still made you almost believe that it was true ? I experienced this when I was watching the video entitled Fear of Girls showing two roleplaying fanatics talking about their life presenting some footage of their gaming sessions and showing them during an interview. What an I say, geeks like this do exist and this video is really well done.

A number that inspired creativity
You might have heard that the AACS is sending Cease and Desist letters to websites who link to a forum thread at the Doom9 forum which has information about the processing key for HD-DVD movies. Instead of focusing on the free speech issues that arise in this matter I would like to point out to something interesting. This number made many users creative and I decided to publish all the interesting creative works that point to that number.

Sometimes a picture says more than 1000 words
Sometimes pictures say more than a thousand words. This is actually the first picdump ever here at ghacks, consider it a little experiment that tests the water to see if you like it or not. I know it is not really related to anything here other than that I would say that geeks like us do love funny pictures. It is part of our culture, don’t you think ? And it is tech related, the first image shows a analogy of the Windows XP Firewall, the second is about Google. Enjoy..

Youtube obeys fake takedown request
Youtube Sunday it seems. We all know that Youtube likes to cooperate with everyone who looks a bit like authority and takes down videos pretty fast. It does not always have to be copyright infringement, it can also be original works of art that some authorities like the Turkish or Thai government want removed from Youtube pressuring the site with a countrywide ban. (man I love the Turkish interpretation of Democracy and free speech)

Google Maps: Swim across the Atlantic Ocean
Now ain’t that interesting ? You can use Google Maps to get directions from one location to another. It is most of the time pretty accurate displaying information about highways, signs, exits and so on to give you a good impression of the route that lies ahead. You can try it now and head over to the Google Maps website and use the Get Directions tab to enter a starting point and destination to see how the system works.

Europe gets delayed and crippled PS3 for more money
Now that is what I call a bargain. Europeans do not only have to wait longer for the Playstation 3 to hit the shelves they also get a crippled PS3 that has reduced backwards compatibility. And the best of all ? They pay even more for the package. I was not sure what to make of the story that Everton posted today on his connected internet blog, he missed to cite a source for his story entitled: “Playstation 3 To Have Less Backwards Compatibility in Europe” and I immediately performed a search to find out what was going on.

The Silent Japanese Game Show
Silence can sometimes be really funny. The following videos are taken from a Japanese game show where the candidates have to be silent most of the time. The “do not laugh” or “gaki no tsukai” show is funny but might be unsuited for some of the viewers, it can be quite disturbing at times if you are used to European or American tv shows. The first videos show the candidates in various situations where they are not allowed to laugh, the last two shows take part in a library where they play a silly game. It is a little bit like jackass..

The Best Stories of 2006 That Shouldn’t Have Happened
My friend Everton has compiled a list of the best stories of 2006 that should not have happened on his connected internet blog. If you want to read again about the guy who wanted to apply as a cleaner at the BBC but was mistaken for an Apple iTunes expert or the 15 year old Google employee then it is time to pay his excellent site a visit.
I know that this article is a little bit short but the real one is not here but at his website, go there now and enjoy the read.
Unsuggester and some Apache .htaccess tips
If you read allot of books, it’s always nice to know if there are others books that you might like based on a list of books you like.
Well Unsuggester is kinda like that, but then the other way around.
You type in a title of a book you like, and the site servers you a list of books you will probably not like.
It is not very useful, but who knows maybe you’ll find a nice book even though the system says you will probably not like it.

Yahoo bought a site I never heard about
Ever heard about Bix ? Bix.com to be precise. Don’t be ashamed to admit that you never heard about it either. I read about the site today and decided to pay a visit to website I never heard about before. I always thought I know everything that is going on but it seems that some sites seem to slip through my grasps. Back to Bix: Bix is a contest site that seems to be pretty famous for it’s Karaoke contests.

Southpark Nintendo Wii Episode
What is going on in Southpark ? After the highly successful World of Warcraft Episode the producers published a second episode that is centered around entertainment technology. Cartman longs for the Nintendo Wii and can’t wait the three weeks until it will be released in the United States. He comes to the conclusion that deep freezing himself is the only solution which reduces the wait time. The plan goes terribly wrong.. but see for yourself.

Germany introduces Internet Tax
Please read on this is a funny story, I promise that. Germans pay about 19$ a month if they own a television. This fee was introduced right after the war to make it possible that state independent tv stations would be able to run without receiving money from the state. There were only those stations after the war and it made sense at this time. Nowadays you have dozens of tv stations but you still pay the money for those state independent ones (all other stations don’t see a dime of that money).

The iPod Bomb Incident
This is a funny story I read on the World of Warcraft forums. A guy who is playing World of Warcraft was on his flight from the United States to Canada to meet some of his fellow clan members. He used the toilet on that flight and witnessed afterwards that the stewardesses were acting strangely. Something seemed to keep the toilet from flushing. The guy immediatly thought it was his fault but decided not to tell them because of this embarassing situation.

Funny Error Messages
Error Messages – I hate them with a passion. Especially if they are not helpful at all or even tragic. Members of the Dailtywtf forum 2 compiled a list of funny messages that were either a result of a search on the internet or a error message from an operating system or application. I don’t think the person who recieved the message thought it was that funny, for everyone else it is..
