It’s Olympic year and this time we’re heading to Beijing to watch the best athletes in the world battle it out for glory. If you’re lucky enough to actually be going to Beijing for the Olympics, then you’re sure to enjoy yourself. However, if you’re like me, you have to make do with trying to watch it online.

NBC holds the rights to the Games and they’ve gone the online way by tying up with software TVTonic. The tie-up offers users the chance to download videos of Olympic events for free. In addition, you can also watch each event online with TVTonic 12 hours after it finishes, which is fine when you’re halfway around the world and are sleeping during the live event.

Back in the days when the Internet was just a series of tubes music, movie and book fans had to get their recommendations from magazines, friends and the guy in the store that sold them the stuff. Recommendations on today’s Internet are a big thing. They are highly popular with users and companies alike. Users are happy that they find new bands, actors, movies and books while companies sell more if they offer recommendations.

Taste Kid (via Genbeta) concentrates on books, movies and music which is something that I have not seen that often yet. Normally it’s only one of the three and not all of them. The website consists of a form where the user can enter something that he likes that relates to books, music or movies. This can be an artist or a name of a product.

Today was such an evil day full of trying to solve a riddle with only a few clues that I had to find something interesting funny to post at the end of it. I loved to watch MacGyver when I was a kid, it was always cool to see how he was able to build something from nothing to get out of dangerous situations.

Much like the A-Team did in the good old days when they build some huge car to break out of their prison. It seems that someone wasted a lot of time to add a list of problems solved by MacGyver to Wikipedia. Every episode of the five seasons is mentioned in the list and it’s interesting and sometimes funny to read.

Stuff like “MacGyver builds a distraction by balancing pots and pans on a bag of ice that melts from heat produced by a toaster oven. He spreads vegetable oil in the ground to incapacitate some kidnappers” or “MacGyver starts out in Berlin, trying to escape with a microfilm containing government secrets. He takes the place of a dead person and is carried in a coffin towards a bridge, where he is dumped into the water by friends. Upon hitting the water, Mac hits a button and turns his coffin into a jet ski, riding away to safety” are precious, don’t you think..

Google Earth is definitely an application that is fun to play around with. Chance is that you will stumble upon some strange sights sooner or later. Plugins make the discovery process easier and it is surprisingly easy to load and find interesting places using those plugins. They basically provide everyone with an ability to load places directly in Google Earth.

The Strange Sights Google Earth Plugin is a collection of interesting sights that users spotted in Google Earth. Sights are divided into categories like “Only from the sky” with sights that can only be seen from the sky or “Virtual Sightseeings” that lead you directly to the Victoria Falls and Mount Everest. They also got a crop circle category for those that are interested in the occult.

Users who would like to give this a try need Google Earth and the Strange Sights plugin.

The same dude who used the game Wii Sports that shipped with the Nintendo Wii gaming system to reduce his weight and become fitter decided to try it again with the new Nintendo game called Wii Fit. This time though he decided to do keep on living and eating like he did before and include a 45-60 minute of Wii Fit every day into his schedule.

The results are pretty amazing. He used to measure his weight, BMI, body fat and heart rate and saw a drop in all of them. His weight went from 191 lbs to 176 lbs, BMI from overweight to normal (down 1.5 points), body fat from 20.8% to 18.4% and heart rate from 87 to 71.

This obviously are interesting results. The question that comes to my mind is however if those results would have been the same - or even better - if he decided to do something else instead. I’m not thinking about Eyetoys here although this would probably make up an interesting experiment as well.
