There is a lot to like about Reddit, the massive online community that rose to fame after Digg and other sites took a dive.

Regardless of whether you like to visit the site for its picture forums, main discussion forums or personal interest forums, it seems to offer something for everyone.

There are countless Reddit clients available for mobile devices so that you can take Reddit with you wherever you go provided that Internet access is available at that location.

Reddit News is a popular application for Android that is considered one of the best for the operating system and maybe even for all systems out there.

The app can be used with and without account. If you don't use an account some account related features, such as commenting or monitoring your own personal stream of subreddits are not available.

When you first start Reddit News you will notice that it displays help tooltips that explain some features of the app. On the frontpage for instance, you are reminded that you can swipe posts to the left to display a list of activities such as up- and downvoting, saving, hiding or jumping to the comments.

You can tap on a post to display it on Reddit if it is an internal post or load an external source such as Imgur or YouTube right away if that is the destination of it.

The main screen displays additional options at the top and bottom. You find a subreddit navigator there that you can use to quickly switch from "all" view to a specific subreddit you are interested in. There you also find the filtering settings to filter posts by time and other parameters such as recency.

Last but not least, a sidebar is available there as well hidden under the Hamburger menu icon. It displays options to sign in and out of an account, change the theme of the app, use the built-in search or visit a specific subreddit, user page or random page on the site.

Individual post pages displays the post and comments on Reddit but also a toolbar at the top and a red button at the bottom of the screen.

The toolbar at the top offers options to vote and save posts, open it in a web browser on the system, reply or use sharing options.

The bottom icon displays "to top" or "to bottom" scrolling options as well as options to search for words and other features related to comments posted by other users.

Closing Words

Reddit News is a great application for users of the service who use Android devices. It is easy to use even if you pay no attention to the massive amount of features that its author has added to the app.

Many users will appreciate those features however as they improve the usability in multiple ways while using the app.

The one downside is that it requires quite a few permissions. It is not clear for instance why it needs the location permission.
