Announcing the 4th Annual Ghacks Christmas Giveaway

When I first started the Christmas Giveaway back in 2008 I did not really think that it would become an annual event, nor that other sites would pick up the idea and run their own giveaways at that time of the year.

The Ghacks Christmas Giveaway is an event taking place from December 1 to December 24 (and sometimes a few days more depending on software availability) where readers of the blog can win commercial software licenses. I have partnered up with great companies like Symantec, Kaspersky, Bitdefender and independent developers that develop gems like Fast Picture Viewer, Sandboxie or Bulk Image Downloader in the past.

I asked you last year which software you’d like to see in the upcoming giveaway, and I’d like to continue this tradition this year.

You can suggest any online service or software, and I will contact the developers to see if they can be convinced to take part in the event. I cannot give you a guarantee that the devs will cooperate but from past experience I can say that most will. Please include the name of the company and the product in your comment (and website if available) so that it is easier for me to find the company website.

Please note that I cannot test Mac or Linux software, and won’t try to get those included in the giveaway unless the company is offering a Windows version as well. If the latter is the case I can include it in the giveaway.

Companies and organizations who produce quality software, hardware or online services can also contact me directly for inclusion in the giveaway. (please use the contact form at the top for that).

I cannot guarantee inclusion at this point in time. If the software or service is regarded highly or of high quality, then chances are good that it will be included.

Each software, hardware and service will be reviewed here on the site. You can check out past reviews here.

  17. Straspey says:

The one piece of software which I would really appreciate is Revo Uninstaller
    Professional.

I have been using the free version for about a year and it really comes in
handy at times. However, I have Windows 7 64-bit – and the free version of
Revo Uninstaller is not configured for 64-bit applications and, in fact, they do not even appear in the menu of installed programs on the free version.

I would absolutely love to have a copy of Revo Uninstaller Pro.

Also – I love your site and I visit here first thing every morning.

    Thanks!

  18. JFP says:

    Thanks for these giveaways

    Acronis True Image Home 2012

    +1 for PDF Xchange Pro
    http://www.tracker-software.com/product/pdf-xchange-pro

    Displayfusion Pro personal home
    http://www.displayfusion.com/

1 year subs to any anti-virus is great.

  19. ParisMan says:

    Hi,

Would be great to grab these :
    1 >> Acronis Backup & Recovery 11 Advanced Workstation http://www.acronis.com/backup-recovery/advanced-workstation/
    2>> VmWare Workstation V8
    3>> Beyond Compare V3 http://www.scootersoftware.com/download.php
    4>> NetWrix USB Blocker http://www.netwrix.com/usb_blocker_freeware.html
    5>> Sandboxie

It’s Xmas time, is it ?

    :))
    Thanks for trying.

  20. DanTe says:

While I don’t need the following, why not go for the gold?

    Microsoft Windows 7

    Microsoft Office 2010

    Microsoft Projects

But I have got to say, that Sandboxie and SnagIt are some really handy easy-to-use software.

    • I tried to get a contact at MS for the last years and failed miserably every time. It is actually pretty funny considering that I cover mostly Windows stuff here. I cannot get the big companies to respond to my inquiries.

  21. BPNelson says:

Another vote for Acronis Backup and Recovery.

    Game: Ingenious.

  22. ParisMan says:

    Addendum…

For all the software requests/wishes, if there is no room for a Giveaway, one could be satisfied with a “real” discount for an upgrade.

I for instance own a V6 of Vmware Workstation but find it expensive to migrate to V7 (when it was released) for US$99. Now they have V8…

    Thanks.

  23. I just remembered that i wish really much to have a full version of total uninstall… pretty much the BEST uninstaller of all.

  24. TM says:

    AIDA64

    http://www.aida64.com/product/aida64-extreme-edition/overview

  25. ParisMan says:

…Last one for the road (im done, won’t add anything more).

    6>> TreesiZe Personal/Pro V5 http://www.jam-software.com/treesize/#

    Thanks.

  26. Threshold says:

    Batman Arkham City Collector’s Edition!

    It runs on a PC so it’s a software..duh. :D

  27. RD says:

Can’t believe it’s nearly that time of year again.

Sandboxie is always a firm favorite in the ghacks xmas giveaway.

Maybe see if you can get your hands on some Malwarebytes licenses, or some imaging programs like Acronis or Paragon.

  28. Jojo says:

I could use an upgrade on a professional defragger pgm. These manufacturers must be hurting with people moving to SSD’s, so they may be willing to give away a number of free copies.

  29. Jojo says:

How about if readers contact companies that they have an existing relationship with and ask them to donate a few licenses? It’s a win/win for both sides. They get some publicity and you get to give away [hopefully] more software.

  30. rick says:

Video conversion program like xilisoft premium would be popular

With all of the above support for techsmith product, I would definitely try for a snagit or camtasia license. Too bad I have paid versions already lol.

You might be able to get a free web-hosting account or two for one year from bluehost.com. I know they have done that a few times.

    • rick says:

For the video converter I thought I would note that WinX HD Video Converter Deluxe (http://www.winxdvd.com/specialoffer/) is free for the next 10 days.
