ChrisPC Free Anonymous Proxy

Having a free anonymous proxy at hand can be very helpful in certain situations. Have you ever visited a website or service where access to content was rejected because of the country you were accessing those contents from? A proxy could help you overcome those IP checks as it allows you to connect to the site or service from a different location in the world. To put it simple: Your traffic is routed through the proxy, and the service or website you connect to only communicates with the proxy, and not your home PC directly.

ChrisPC Free Anonymous Proxy is, as the name hints at, a free online proxy. It is based on the popular TOR, The Onion Router, project.

Why not use just TOR instead? Because this version is less complicated to use. All you need to do is to install the program first and run it afterwards. Please note that the installation includes an option to install an unrelated software program on your computer. Most users might not want to do this, considering that this additional application is not needed to operate the anonymous proxy.

The few configuration options are all displayed in the main application interface upon startup. Here it is possible to select a specific country that you want the proxy to be from. This can be used to access country specific websites or services.

A click on Connect to Proxy establishes the connection. The proxy can be used under Internet Explorer, Firefox or Google Chrome. Please note that you need to restart browsers that have been open before the proxy connection was established.

The biggest advanced of Free Anonymous Proxy is the ease of use. Just select a country, click connect and et voila, you are now using an anonymous proxy from that country. This method is superior to web proxies, as it works in all browser tabs right of the box. You can work in the browser as you normally would without worrying about proxy configuration at all.

ChrisPC Free Anonymous Proxy is a handy program for Windows users who need a reliable anonymous proxy. The TOR network has not been designed for entertainment and multimedia though, which is suggested by the developer of the application. That’s clearly a minus, as is the lack of information that TOR is used by the program.

The proxy itself is compatible with all versions of Windows from Windows 2000 to Windows 7. Interested users can download the latest version from the developer website.

Unlike Tor browser bundle this isn’t portable I’m afraid.

  2. boernie says:

    Have a look at UltraSurf.
It was really helpful when I was in Vietnam where Facebook is blocked :)

    • TRY says:

Hate to break this up to you boernie but I believe Ultrasurf is actually a malware.
Its better to stick to Tor or some well-known VPN.

      • boernie says:

You seem to be right =/
        Thank you for the information.

Good that I did not use it on my PC. But I should change my Facebook password now >.<

    • TRY says:

@Boernie: If you are still there, change all your login credentials whichever you logged in with Ultrasurf, plus scan the system with AV’s and AM’s as Ultarsurf makes changes in the registry as well.G-Tunnel is a another one which also an malware.

Do read this WOT (Web of Trust) comment,

    WOT=Waste of Time

  5. ilev says:

Doesn’t the application install some malware called COMPLITLY which takes over your home page, install an add-on in Firefox and is flagged by WOT as dangerous ?

  6. Peter says:

I uploaded Ultrasurf to Virustotal for a scan and it had multiple virus warnings. The Ultrasurf website claims this is because of the nature of the program, not because it’s malware. I also uploaded it to another virus scanner called Jotti’s malware scan and there was only one or two warnings out of 20 scanners. In any case, I’ll stick to Web Proxies which allow you to strip out Javascript which can be used to identify you.

    • TRY says:

@Peter: The creators can claim anything as he/she wants but its actually being proved that Ultrasurf is trojan and its service is used for stealing your login credentials as well as using your system for DOS attacks, etc. on financial institution, etc. If you want privacy/anonymity then Tor is good for anonymity but not for privacy. For privacy and anonymity use trusted and well-known multiple-hop VPN’s out there in the market.

      Regards
