We Want You, Writers

Ghacks.net is currently looking for two to three additional writers who can contribute between one and two articles per week to the site, with options to increase the output per week at a later time (depending on performance and user perception). You ideally should have experience writing articles in the tech niche, it is a bonus but not a must. Lets take a closer look at what we are looking for:

  • English native from US, UK, Canada or Australia, no exceptions.
  • Expert in one of the following niches: Mobile Phones / Apps (preferably Android/Apple), Apple Mac Software and Tips, Guides and Tutorials, Facebook/Twitter, Development. Exception: If you are an expert in another field let us know about it, e.g. application development, web apps. Writers who are experts in more than one field mentioned will be favored.
  • Alternatively someone who would like to be Ghack’s face and voice on Youtube (video tutorials, video casts)
  • Alternatively someone who can produce ebooks
  • Understanding for tech, and an ability to explain complex concepts in understandable English.
  • Understanding for what’s popular, and what’s not in a niche (no we do not need someone to write about Windows 3.11)
  • Articles should have a length of 500+ words each, have proper formatting and contain screenshots and other media
  • Writers who read user comments and answer them regularly
  • A long term commitment.

What we are not looking for:

  • Unreliable writers
  • Writers who do not read and error correct their articles before publishing them
  • Writers from countries not mentioned in the “what we are looking for country list”
  • Writers who think they can promote their own contents, affiliate contents or other contents they are paid for directly or indirectly.
  • Writers who think they can produce and forget. Users sometimes have questions or remarks, articles may need correction

We pay our writers once per month (at the first) via PayPal but would consider a different payment method if necessary. Payment itself can either be a flat fee per article posted on site, or per word whichever the author prefers. Video production will be paid as a flat fee only.

Send an email to news@ghacks.net if you think you are the man or woman for the job. We would like to know more about you, what you are doing currently, what your plans are for the coming years. Please include two articles that you have written in the past in the email, either as a link to a web property or as a plain text attachment. The articles ideally should cover one of the niches mentioned above. Make sure you link to one or two of your videos if you like to apply as a video producer. We do not need a resume or any other documents, only your name, age and current residency.

Feel free to contact us if you have questions about the application, writing for Ghacks, payments or anything else.

What about English writers from India, West Indies, South Africa, New Zealand and your own country? The quality of English speakers and writers are pretty good.

Just curious as to why they were excluded.

    • Well it is not so much about the people, but about their background, the words they use, the trends they follow that are completely different. These countries are my biggest English speaking audiences and I therefor have made the decision to find writers from those countries. I have not said anything bad about writers from other countries, only that I’m looking for writers from the countries that I have selected.

There are additional reasons that are beyond the scope of this explanation.

really racist article because of your genious(!) country rectriction. i will never look at this page again. you deserve readers just from your racist country rectriction.

  3. Mystique says:

I think there is a little bit of an overreaction here in regards to the articles geographical preference, although I do feel there are some well-spoken people available in other locations outside of those mentioned it is entirely up to the administrators of this site to choose, it may also be due to other reasons altogether beyond the scope of the linguistic abilities of someone outside of US, UK, Canada or Australia.

I do wish you luck in your search for additional writers and hope they can deliver some great articles as is expected here.

Best of luck to those that apply! : )

  4. SubgeniusD says:

Your English writing is consistently better then a lot of native American tech writers I run across. I thought you were a Brit (for some reason) for several months after subscribing to this podfeed.

Btw – an Indian writer might help spread Ghacks readership in India. Nilay Patel was always my favorite Endgadget writer and personality before the mass exodus (thanks for nothing AOL).

  5. Matias says:

    Hi Martin!

I just could not resist asking: have you noticed that, if it were you who was looking for this great job, you were going to be excluded from the selection? Could you afford losing a great writer like yourself?

    Cheers!

    :)

    • Matias I do understand the implication and some may see it as ironic. Still, I’m not looking for the best English tech writer in the world, I’m looking for the best English tech writer from the countries mentioned, which could be the same person. It is about targeting specific countries, and I firmly believe that someone from that country will produce better articles for visitors from that country than someone who comes from another country. I may be wrong when it comes to high-end professional journalism, but that would shoot the costs through the roof.

Great people can never be racist, without exception in history of mankind so ruled out before ascribing mischievous allegations.Your logic is right. These are big big countries massive tech population and huge infrastructure, easy since childhood.US is founder of PC,Pentagon-Internet.Will bring a huge variety.Australian is a racist country for those who have eyes but Technologically advanced, sites like Technibble.Almost everyone’s Hero-Assange,a living legend.Everyone will benefit and your decision is 100% perfect.Already best site will become better,I assure you.
Here is a suggestion that maybe you can made a subdomain like tech.ghacks.net and in that section you can select 2-3 if main writers are 7 and there the articles will be very high analysis and as useful, detailed, well presented like howtogeek and LH,software reviews better than CNET by comparing top 10 in all categories.Stating the finest details.Nowhere in the world such site exists. Will be most useful. Will be fair to give same package as main 7.Best genius accepting the same privileges offered by you.Everyone should be given equal weight there,The point should be brilliance and computer users(all) will like that giving boost to Tech, site, users and best 2-3 among the best.I am sure high class tech material which Raymond even now sometimes provide and others will have to more reason to stick with one Tech Blog against plethora of blogs which are rarely usable practically.
It is your wish but “Low ambition and not failure is a vice”and is there any chance of a failure?Exactly visualization instead if what I am thinking for you have any substance and soul.
    Thanks and Best of Luck!
