Safe Returner Review And Giveaway [Ghacks Christmas Giveaway]

Safe Returner is an anti-malware security tool that aids users in the removal of malicious software from their Windows PC. The problem with many regular antivirus solutions is that they are often incapable of returning the system to its previous state. Most delete the malicious software just fine from the system but fail to repair the damage the infection has caused. That’s where Safe Returner comes into play.

Safe Returner in its core is a malware scanner that can detect all kinds of malware, from trojans over worms to spyware and rootkits. The program uses an heuristic approach to detect malware on the system.

Safe Returner examines all the system files, the Windows Registry and the programs and files loaded at boot time. The majority of malicious programs (once triggered) load this way. Safe Returner is designed specifically to disable/remove Malware without the user having to manually edit system files or the Registry. The program also removes the additional system modifications some Malware carries out which are ignored by standard antivirus and trojan scanners.

Safe Returner displays information about the program on startup. It is here that users can enter their registration code, see the time of the last update and system scan, and the program’s version and database version.

A click on Scan starts a scan of the system. The same scan is accessible by clicking on Scan in the top menu. Safe Returner scans only part of the computer system, the critical parts to be precise. It will scan system files, running files, The Windows Registry and programs that are started during PC startup.

The advantage of this method is that it can scan the Windows PC in short time, and since the majority of malicious programs run on the computer it should be able to catch them easily. A complimentary antivirus software is needed to scan and clear the remaining files and locations of the system from malicious software, if any is found.

The program displays all threats in a listing in the scan interface after the scan. Threats are listed with their file path, a score, company, first detection and other information about them. The score is a threat assessment by the program, with higher scores hinting at suspicious programs. A red color score is used to identify and visualize threats.

It is possible to delete a threat right away, or right-click to display options to research the topic on the three sites Bleepingcomputer, Threatexpert and Prevx. There are further options to send the file to Virustotal for a thorough online scan of it and to search Google for information. It is also possible to jump to the file location in Windows Explorer or the location in the Windows Registry straight away.

Users who want to delete malware from their system using Safe Returner need to make sure that they have saved all their work before doing so. Safe Returner – on user request – will remove malware from the system and reboot the system afterwards, without prompt. The scan offers an expert mode which basically adds startup items to the list of results.

Users can make several changes to scans and other program features in the Settings, for instance to add programs to an ignore list or enable the scanning of larger file types.

Verdict

Safe Returner is like a fireman. It comes into play when the system is already infected, or when the user suspects that it is. The program is not used to protect a system 24/7 from possible threats, it is designed to eliminate threats that have slipped past those defenses. Users who are experiencing problems removing malware from their system should give Safe Returner a try, as it may very well do just that.

Safe Returner Installation

The installation rushes by and users do not have to make a lot of choices here. It basically involves clicking the Next button a couple of times. Safe Returner requires no restart before it can be launched.

Windows 64-bit users need to know that the program does not appear to be fully compatible with the system. The Scan worked on our Windows 7 Professional 64-bit system though, but the Quick Scan at the startpage did not. It looped a found update – installed updated – found update process whenever the scan button was clicked.
