Computer gamers need every bit of performance that they can get, especially if they play competitive games online. But even single player gamers may require that extra bit of performance if a game is not running as smoothly as it could. While it is possible to simply buy new computer hardware to improve the performance of the game and the PC in general, it is often a good idea to tweak the current PC before doing so.
Most gamers know that they should not be running other system taxing applications in the background while gaming. Game Booster 2.0 basically takes this concept to the limit by optimizing the PC for gaming. Actually, it can be used for more than gaming as high-end applications may benefit from the system tweaks as well.
Game Booster by IObit is available as a free and premium version. Game Booster Premium adds several features to the software, the most important ones are:
- Enhanced services detection
- System Tweaks
- Removal of ads and news
- Control the Advice Section
- Adding unlimited games to Game Box
- Priority technical support

Game Booster analyses the services and gaming related drivers on startup and displays advice on how to optimize the system. The system above for instance had one outdated driver and 15 services that can be stopped while gaming.
Services are programs that usually run in the background with Windows. Game Booster deactivates services that are not needed during gaming, think of the printer service for instance.
A click on details next to advice opens the out of date driver list or unnecessary services list.
Drivers are listed with their name, version and release date date. There is an option to rescan the drivers or go to the download page to download the latest driver for the selected device. This opens the download page on the manufacturer’s site. Other developers have started to redirect users to their homepages instead which Game Booster thankfully does not do.
A click on details next to the services lists the services that can be deactivated in Game Booster.
Among them services like Computer Browser, Diagnost services or the Windows Font Cache Service. Native Windows services are listed on the first page, and third party services on the second. No third party services are selected to be disabled while in game mode, and users should definitely configure them for the best effect. The Windows Live ID Sign-In Assistant is for instance one of the third party services listed on that second page.
But Game Booster 2.0 Premium does not stop there. A click on Next once again displays background applications that the program recommends to close to boost the gaming experience. It is possible to display all background applications to select additional programs that Game Booster should close when switching to the game boosting mode.
Mobile gamers find another interesting option after clicking on the Next button once again. They can activate a gaming mode power plan which changes the power settings to high performance automatically.
All of these tweaks can be activated with a click on the Slide To Boost button in the main interface.
Game Booster 2.0 offers more than that though. We have already looked at the game drivers scanner which scans the system for outdated drivers. Game Essentials lists game related applications that user’s may find useful. The current listing displays only voice communication services such as Teamspeak, Xfire or Ventrilo. Programs are listed with their name, version, status and release date (which seems bugged as all show 02/10/2010). The installed applications are checked if they are up to date and the user is notified if an update is available.
Game Defrag offers to defragment specific games only to boost their performance. The application displays the installed Windows games by default (the games that are shown in Windows Game Explorer), but has an option to scan custom game directories as well. Defragmenting games can have a positive effect on game performance.
System Tweaks offers to tune the system for top performance. A click on Top Performance lists the tweaks that will be applied to the system. This includes boosting foreground application priorities, disabling 8.3 names for NTFS and disabling Last Access for NTFS. The optimized items are displayed in System Tweaks, and it is possible to restore the old settings with a click. All tweaks here take effect after a system reboot.
Game Tools finally links to mostly native Windows applications that are gaming related. This includes Mouse, Keyboard and Game Controller control panel applets for instance.
The options contain several interesting settings. It is for instance possible to add services to the list of the services that should be disabled in gaming mode, disable news and advertisements (premium users only), hide advice (premium only, or to add items to an ignore list so that they are not displayed in Game Essentials.
Game Booster Premium Installation
Installation should not pose any difficulties. An option to download additional IObit freeware is selected on the last screen which can be deactivated if that is not desired.
A click on Register in the application interface opens a window where the license code can be entered to activate the premium features of Game Booster 2.0.

Man, I had to remove it. I just did a quick lookup into Iobit, to see if I would rather give their defragger a try over Defraggler and found out they had stolen intellectual property from Malwarebytes. I cannot support thieves. Shame too, as it might have been nice to use.

i was wrong. it says ‘ACTIVATED’ but still CANT use premium features. it asks for key over and over and each time it says activated but it isnt.
