At gHacks we’ll always bring you the best and latest news so I’ve secured a review unit from Microsoft of a new Windows Phone and will be bringing you a complete in depth review of Microsoft’s new smartphone operating system over the next couple of weeks. I’ll be writing the full reviews at our sister site, www.Windows7News.com and providing summaries here at ghacks.
Now I have to say here that I’ve been evangelising about this new operating system since February and looking forward to the phone’s delivery eagerly. Sadly I only have it for a week or so as review handsets are much sought after (it was a struggle even getting this one so quick and I had to call in some favours at Microsoft to do so). I know that whatever the result of my experience with Windows Phone it will be difficult for me to go back to my regular phone, but as that’s only an HTC Touch HD you should hardly be surprised.
In the first part of the review I’m looking at the unboxing experience and the HTC Mozart handset that I’ve been sent. The handset quality is up to HTCs usual high standards, though I’ll report on battery life later on. I’m underwhelmed by the unboxing however as I was hoping for Windows Phone to come with a bit more pizazz along the lines of Apple’s products. Sadly, while it’s nice to open it and just be faced with the handset screen, it’s just feels like getting a new phone out of a box.
I’m determined to deliver an unbiased review however and there are already a couple of areas I’m concerned out. You can click on any of the photos to view them full-size.
You can read the full version of Part 1 of this review at Windows7News and I’ll be writing about setting up the phone tomorrow.

I was really underwhelmed with the platform when i went to a developer show in london recently.
The only thing they seem interesting in is the tie in with the xbox games.
As a matter of fact i really dont like the lop sided home screen and as a developer the really poor way that the apps are handled.
Not proper multi tasking at all.
You take a photo and want to send it via email, i understand it closes the camera app fires up a process to send the image to the mail app and then sends the email.
this is how things are handled but there isnt a bit of code to do something similar if you wanted to send a video.
The whole system seems very under thought.
I just can’t see it working very well
From what I have read the WP7 seems like a 2007 smartphone in 2011 era.
Many features that are mandatory in smartphones today are missing : multitasking, cat&paste, video calls, lack of applications … it seems that for no logical reason Microsoft has rushed a half baked smartphone into the market.
Again, it’s not the era of iPhone 1 , it’s the era of iPhone 4, evo, droidX…
A note about quality. Batches of WP7 sent to UK, were sent back due to poor quality, hence the big shortage in UK
