Windows 7 SP1 RC build leaks to the web

Microsoft has been leaking like a sieve in recent years and now Windows 8 Beta are reporting that the release candidate for Windows 7 Service Pack 1, build number 7601.17105.100929-1730 has leaked to the web.

The service pack, which is also applicable to Windows Server 2008 R2, is usually the milestone after the implementation of which businesses move their systems over to a new operating system from Microsoft.

The file details are…

There’s no major new functionality in Service Pack 1 for Windows 7 so there should be no need to rush to download it.  Besides adding support for a couple of technologies including USB3 it’s simply a roll-up of existing patches that have been available from Windows Update for some time.

We would also not recommend installing beta software or indeed any software that you can download from a torrent site.  These programs are often modified by virus and malware writers to carry a hidden payload.

The final release of Service Pack 1 should come in the first quarter of 2011.
