Opera Software has just released the first release candidate of the upcoming Opera 10.60 web browser. Opera 10.60 continues where Opera 10.50 left of improving on overall web browser speed and compatibility.
Opera performs very well in popular web browser benchmarks, how well usually depends on the benchmark. It is fair to say that Opera 10.60 will rank fairly high in all of them except those that benefit from hardware acceleration.
The developers have released a series of snapshot releases and a beta release before the release candidate was released.

These snapshot releases included lots of stability and performance improvements but also added support for several HTML5 web technologies like HTML5 Video, Geolocation, Offline Web Applications, Cross-Document Messaging or Web Workers.
The release candidate actually continued the stability work by fixing several crash issues. Opera 10.60 RC1 has been released for Microsoft Windows, Macintosh and Linux systems.
The developers are still looking for major new issues that they have overlooked so far. It is likely that these major issues would then be fixed in upcoming release candidates.
