Since Windows 7 was launched on October 22nd last year Microsoft has now sold a very impressive 150 Million copies of it and they’re shouting from the rafters. In a post on the Windows Team Blog they’ve rather triumphantly said…
I have a couple of things to tell you about today. First off, we are excited to announce that Windows 7 has sold 150 million licenses to-date. As I’ve said before, Windows 7 is the fastest selling operating system in history with 7 copies of Windows 7 sold every second.
They go on to say that approximately 75% of enterprises are now looking to upgrade to Windows 7 internally. This could finally be for Microsoft the operating system that breaks the now traditional cycle of volume licence customers waiting for the first service pack before upgrading. However this probably also has a lot to do with businesses shunning Vista and needing to replace their ageing old XP hardware.
It’s still extremely impressive sales figures for the OS however which passed the 100 Million mark only two short months back. This means that the Redmond Giant has managed to ship a staggering 25 Million licences every single month since the operating system launched.
Windows 7 sales show no signs of slowing down, especially as business and consumer confidence slowly grows after the global economic downturn, and people once again begin to think about buying replacement and additional computers.

Ahmad, thanks for letting us know. This is a caching issue, the page is cached when the first user visits it, if the user is logged in it will show those information to other users opening the page at a later time. They get the cached page. I understand it is confusing and I have disabled caching for logged in users to avoid the problem in the future. Thanks for letting us know about it.
No problem Martin, I am just letting you know about this issues, thanks for replying and provide me info on this issue. This site is nice and keep me updated, I regularly go through it…(else than Linux articles)…
Is it not also the most advertised OS in history? Just asking.
It is probably the most talked about OS, not sure though if Microsoft spend more than 300 Million US Dollars to advertise Windows 7.
Copies sold are not copies installed. Many downgrade to XP.
I wish Windows 7 was the fastest Microsoft OS in history, not the fastest selling OS…
There are other factors here. Like people upgrading their hardware out of necessity. I think that more sites offering streaming HD Flash video and it’s absurd use of resources is one of the biggest. A dual core is now a must even for the average user, THANKS ADOBE!! I wish the gov’t would hand me some awesome code, I’d couldn’t do any worse with it. Anyway, dual cores with more memory than needed are dirt cheap these days. It’s sort of the perfect storm for MS.
Question, is it policy now at MS to release a giant turd followed by a smaller one?
Ex, ME then XP
Vista then 7
Really, Linux as a desktop is looking better every day.
good news!
