Experts Exchange Junk Remover

Experts-Exchange.com is a highly controversial website which can be largely attributed to their deceptive layout which tries to trick users into believing that they can only view the answers to questions posted on the site if they signup for it.

Most users do not know that the site displays different content depending on the origin of the user. A user entering an experts exchange url directly will see the trial offer, someone following a link from a search engine like Google or Bing will be led to a slightly different page.

That page has the answers and solutions at the very bottom of the page. Experts Exchange do their best to hide the fact that the answers are on the page by displaying a huge category listing between the question and answers.

A signup to view the solution is displayed prominently beneath the question on each page.

The Experts Exchange userscript removes the junk from their pages. It basically removes the signup request, the fake comment boxes and the directory from the website so that only the question and answers remain.

The script has a few limitations. It is advised to visit Experts Exchange from Google or another search engine since they display the results and the answers on those pages most of the time.

The best way to handle this is to search for the title in Google and enclose it with “”. This should display the page of the Experts-Exchange site in the results.

The script is not working properly on some pages even if the site is visited from Google. It is likely that the developer will add support for those pages at a later time. Some pages at Experts Exchange seem to hide the answers completely. The script won’t be able to help in this case then.

Experts Exchange can be downloaded from the userscripts resource site. It is fully compatible with the Firefox web browser and likely to work in Google Chrome and other userscript compatible browsers as well.

Alternatively simply sign up as expert for free. http://www.experts-exchange.com/registerFree2.jsp
If you answer a few questions a month, you will have free access to everything. This is like StackTrace, where you need to have been active on their site to be allowed to make any comments or the like
By the way – EE Articles are all free and unprotected. There are more and more of them and they are of very high peer-reviewed quality in my opinion.

@EEvangelist, you forget to warn the people for this “sect” that’s allowing flames between experts and isn’t interested in quality answers at all.

Bad idea to subscribe, just use this proposed way to see the answers!

    It’s all for the $$’s

“isn’t interested in quality answers at all,Bad idea to subscribe, just use this proposed way to see the answers!”

And still you use this script to view the answers… for what joy? Either make up your mind to see or not to see the answers and save yourself of the fickle mindedness.

I am not an EE lover neither I am an Hater.. I use SO as well. You should be concerned about the different answers and their betterments in the internet so that you will know what to choose from.

I am amazed at the author. I read few articles which are good. Why cant the same zeal and enthusiasm not be used to share knowledge at EE.

Ok if you don’t like sharing it, share it elsewhere but at least stop being a EE Hater.

    “Help and get helped.. “

    @sharpShooter

I’ve been the #1 Access expert for many years and I’ve been moderating the site for some 4 years, so I know the quality of the answers. The problem however is the fact the new owners turned EE into a $$ machine instead of the real knowledge exchange as it was in the old days when I joined.

I guess most experts don’t even realize the effort it takes for outsiders to get to their answers as they are blinded by the point system and the fact that the EE admins do feed this by a cleanup effort to give the experts their points. The cleanup for invalid answers with broken links however didn’t hatch and thus some 50% of the answers (especially the older ones) are no longer of any value.

Not to mention the fact that the administration fails entirely to solve flames between experts.

And yes I do use the SO way sometimes to check my contributions as these admins did suspend me to hide their failure. (They even removed all references to my external published samples, turning lots of my solutions worthless…)

So I’ve first hand experience how things work at EE and are indeed an expert in waring people against this “sect”.

  5. Eevangelist says:

Nico, you are a special case of personalities clashing. From what I read on the net, I do not think you will ever be neutral on this subject. I have been expert for 13 years and I have had mostly good to great experience at EE.

  6. nico5038 says:

Just hope Michel that you’re never placed in the situation I’ve been.

After 4 year of being a moderator (modulo and GranMod) the admins allowed a PE to blow my moderator name “cover” and didn’t act when an expert called me names and refused any kind of moderation. Instead of suspending that expert, that hasn’t contributed anything to the site as cleanup volunteer or PE, they suspended me.
For me that’s the world up side down.

As stated before, the “old” EE was a nice place to exchange knowledge, but the $$’s fortress it has been changed into gradually should be clear to all experts that are contributing there for free. Just try to subscribe as an expert again and see for yourself how hard that is. You’ll first have to “qualify” by answering Q’s before you’re able to see the comments on answered Q’s……

      Nico,
Let me be frank with you.

First of all I dint know you were with EE. Feels bad to see experts like you who are highly qualified leave and turn against it.

I always believe knowledge is power and knowledge is wealth. Things that happened at EE to you is TERRIBLE.

Sorry, Michel I just cannot support this kind of treatment. Always remember “It takes no effort to prove an hypothesis wrong” and yes one little incident like this can damage the reputation of a website and even worse the feelings of a person.

I do have to accept many solutions that are accepted are not good and low in quality. Yes many are blinded by the points system. But I dint know it was a $$ machine, but I care less about that fact because I am more interested in helping people.

Michel being there for 13 years and you being there for 5 odd years is an exceptional boon to EE sad things ar the way they are.

I would only expect you to tell people about the truth but not intimidate them or threaten them or for the records WARN them.

I hope you take it in the right spirit and help EE be a better place.

      Best,
      sharpShooter

  7. Nico was booted out for stalking another member, a more highly rated Access expert who is a MVP in that field – which much to Nico’s chagrin, he isn’t

The tiresome stalking continues, this is yet another example of a individual who cant let go

  8. Jim Dettman says:

    <>

Yes, so pathetic (and sad) that he still can’t let go of this after all these years.

I once had a lot of respect for Nico; we answered many a question in the Access area together in the early days of EE, but no longer.

The level of anger he has towards EE is way out of proportion with what happened and the stalking of another member by him was un-professional to say the least.

As far as EE making money, so what? My hat’s off to them. I bet many sites wish they were in the same situation. Unlike many who operate at a net loss, they are thriving and continue to grow. They’ve been in existence now since 1996 and during that time, a *lot* of people have gotten helped. And site improvements are continual, which benefit members. As a company they have created jobs where none existed, boosted the local economy by hosting events, and take part in charities on a regular basis. Just recently, two wells in Africa were built because of the efforts of EE and it’s Experts. In short, they have enriched the lives of many people through the sites existence and as an employer.

“But it’s not free!” Well it is if you’re willing to answer five or so questions a month. I’ve been on EE for over 11 years now and haven’t paid a dime during that time. If you don’t want to help by answering questions, that’s perfectly fine. But don’t complain then because you don’t get it for free. As many sites have discovered, some one needs to pay to keep the lights on.

Nico, I have to say I was really sad to trip over this and realize that after all this time you still haven’t let this go. So very sad.

    • nico5038 says:

      @Get a life,
Adding professional and better quality comments on crappy solutions isn’t stalking in my view.
Just the fact that I helped EE as moderator did get me suspended. Other experts quarreling for many years are still tolerated.
You won’t be able to find a non access related comment by me regarding this so-called “expert”. (In my view just a great HELP-file reader/copier and nothing more)

      @Jim
Hope you never get a “calling names” email from capricorn1. The best recipe is not to ask him to post quality answers, explaining the questioner WHY something is done the way it’s done.
It was after the EE conference that I got the idea that Ian was trying to get a “quality site” that I asked crappy to improve his comment quality, just to find that he’s only interested in scoring points and certainly no team player with the other experts as I liked to be.

Also sad to see that you interpret my Access related comments as “stalking”. Be happy with your EE membership and contribution to the EE millions of $$’s only receiving EE-points in return.

And be sure that I’ve found more rewarding ways to help others gaining Access knowledge, without having to deal with the EE hassle of flames, dis-encouraging “experts” and failing administrators.

Expert Exchange is simply a fraud…..they only screw things up…..donot fix or help anyone or thing…..
AVOID at all cost…..they WILL charge you credit card for another 30 days of more of their crap! Doubt they’re experts at anything except FRAUD!!!

  10. nico5038 says:

Funny, just posted a critical note at http://www.youtube.com/user/ExpertsExchangeTV and guess what…
It was removed within one minute.
Once again proving the fact that critical notes aren’t allowed, a strategy that has proved to work against you in the long run.

Feel free to try it yourself :-)

    Nic;o)

  11. Jim Dettman says:

    <>

Probably was the note itself that was the problem. Not sure what you said, but you will note that C9therine’s comment has stood for over a year and it’s hardly flattering to EE.

And one minute? That seems incredibly fast…maybe the you tube service itself deleted your note? I’m not even sure someone has the capability to delete a comment off their channel.

In anycase, I’m sure even semi-reasonable comments or criticisms would be allowed to stand.

Post what you wrote word for word here and we’ll see how valid it was.

    Jim.
