Opera 10.51 was released less than three weeks after the release of the Opera 10.50 milestone release. Three public release candidates were released in rapid succession before the final version of Opera 10.51. The new version of the popular web browser fixes many user interface inconsistencies and bugs that have made their release in Opera 10.50, a release that many users thought to be rushed out by the developers to meet the browser ballot screen introduction in the European Union.
Opera 10.50 increased the performance of the web browser by a lot. The Opera browser is now one of the fastest web browsers available on the Internet and the developers promise that Opera 10.51 increases the speed further by up to 27% in the Peacekeeper benchmark compared to Opera 10.50.

The developers have published a post that details more speed and JavaScript improvements in Opera 10.51, for instance the fact that Opera 10.51 passes the Sputnik test of Google Labs better than any other web browser.
Opera 10.51 additionally fixes two security issues making it a recommended update for any Opera user.

oh…and when will the 10.50 be ready for us the Linux users?
I visit opera.com everyday ( and even several times on some days) just to read “Opera 10.50 available shortly”!
When will the developers release it? Have been waiting for over a month now!!
10.50 will not be available. Whenever Opera is released for Linux, it will be equal to the version number for Windows, e.g if it is released in the next few days, it will be 10.51 that is released not 10.50. Most of the bugs fixed were cross-platform and they aren’t done yet with GTK integration, but whenever it gets released, you can be sure that it will be as good as the one on Windows. You can try the latest build if you want.

:-)
The new Opera version really blows one’s socks off and the interface is better than it has ever been before, with the title bar and menu bar hidden by default, thus leaving the content estate at its maximum. Not mentioning full support of fancy things like transparency, Aero and stuff. It just gets better and better :-)
Right click to open a new tab is failing most of the time in this new version. Never failed before.
This slows me down heavily, I’m having to ‘copy link address’ and then ctrl T then ctrl V… much slower.
Works fine here. Is middle click also failing? Or mouse gesture down then up?
Works like a charm for me, no issues. Try to take a look at your Keyboard shortcuts setup under Ctrl+F12 / Shortcuts and find if there are any conflicts. Or try to repair / reinstall Opera.
Cheers,
Tobey
I use the right click menu to open links in new tabs. If the link is via text it works, if the link is via an image it doesn’t. The options are there but fails to function, yet the option for ‘copy link address’ still works whether hovering over text or an image.
This prob is occuring on all sites, e.g. facebook.
If others don’t get this problem then I’ll re-install Opera. The problem occured as soon as Opera auto updated.
IMHO the easiest way to open links in new tab/background tab is to set a mouse gesture for it – like right-click and drag the link in certain direction, in my case right click and drag down, then up. You can try this also, before reinstalling.
I use the middle-mouse button to open links in new tabs, easiest option and working in all web browsers.
ROFL! It works! Can’t believe I hadn’t discovered this earlier…
Thanks for the tip, Martin ;-)
I’m on a laptop with no middle button, so I’ve enabled mouse gestures and that’s tested ok.
So thanks everyone, for the help.
How about fixing the bug instead of finding workarounds for it and saying it works now? Yes I know links can be opened in background tab by ctrl+shift-clicking (my mouse wheel sucks so I’d rather not use it for clicking) but if I’m used to opening links with the right-click menu, I’d like to continue doing that. You can imagine how frustrating it can be to open a dozen image links, closing the gallery tab, then realizing none of the images were actually opened…
I may be stubborn but I’d prefer an actual fix instead of learning a workaround.
That’s understandable but as mentioned above, this seems to be a bug specific for your system because I was not able to recreate such wrong behavior.. Try reinstalling/repairing Opera…
Same issue with tabs like Miika in O 10.51. In the right click, neither Open in new tab nor Open in background tab will not work. Tried on Win Vista Business and Win XP Pro, same issue. Reinstalled Opera, no change.
Why the hell? Opera has been my favorite browser since 1998 when it was saving lot of time on dial-up connection. I liked it because it is fast and reliable and updates do not change basic functionality. Now it has new slack design (which in some cases, as search in page, sucks) and functionality gone. Rolling back to Opera 10.01.
If this will continue, I´ll go for Firefox.
Trying Opera forums will probably be of more use. We are only users and not experts.

Good luck if you got Opera 10.51 without asking on an automatic update then found out your email client with Comcast isn’t working.
New composed emails just stack up in the outbox. Problem may be with Comcast. Anyone else with this problem? Does a gmail account work OK as a client in Opera 10.51?
Yes it is working fine. Try entering your passwords again or check your firewall.
I too has this problem in an older version of Opera. Check this out for a solution:

HTH.
Half the websites I use most often simply will not load with Opera 10.51. It’s a complete disaster as far as I’m concerned. I’ve had to switch to Chrome. I wouldn’t resent it so much if I’d been asked if I wanted to upgrade as I was with all previous versions.
Hmm. Am I the only one running the new Opera smoothly and with no trouble whatsoever? Strange…
