Google Chrome 4.1 Beta Released

The Google Chrome developers have released version 4.1 beta of Google Chrome for Windows. Google Chrome 4 is currently the official version of the Google browser for the public while Google Chrome 5 versions are released to developers and tech enthusiasts.

Google Chrome 4.1 Beta adds two new features to the web browser that Google Chrome 5 users have already been enjoining (or cursing about) for some time. The beta now offers the Google Translate integration that Chrome 5 users already experienced for some time. This is a slightly controversial feature as its configuration options are limited. You can read up on the translation feature and dozens of user comments in our review of Google Translate for Chrome.

The translate feature can be very helpful for users who regularly access websites that are offered in languages that they cannot understand (that well). It does miss the option to perform automatic translations and the ability to block the feature on specific websites.

The second addition is the content settings panel in the Chrome configuration which allows a webmaster to control cookies, plugins, JavaScript and popups. These control settings are found under Options > Under the hood > Privacy.

The second addition finally means that Google Chrome users can now block JavaScript, Plugins and cookies on specific websites.

Google Chrome 4.1 is still only offered as a beta for Windows. The Chrome developers aim to turn the beta into a new release in the coming weeks. The Google Chrome beta release can be downloaded here.
