Mozilla Weave Sync 1.0 Release Candidate Available

Mozilla Weave Sync is an add-on for the Firefox web browser that can be used to synchronize data between multiple Firefox installations. It is actively developed by Mozilla developers and now available in a release candidate 2 build.

Weave Sync can currently synchronize the web browser’s bookmarks, browsing history saved passwords and tabs. The data gets encrypted on the PC or device Mozilla Weave is running on before it gets transferred to the Mozilla servers where it is stored so that other devices can synchronize their data with the latest version on the servers.

This basically makes it possible to have the same information available in all Firefox web browsers that run Mozilla Weave Sync regardless of their location or computer and device they are installed on.

The release candidate 2 of Weave Sync has been improved in the following way:

  • Faster startup times for Firefox and Fennec
  • Make tabs available immediately when setting up another computer
  • Automatically use the synced lightweight theme (Firefox 3.6+)
  • Better integration with Fennec UX
  • Avoid triggering master password prompt on launching Firefox

The new version of Mozilla Weave Sync can be downloaded from the official profile page of the add-on at the Mozilla Firefox website. The release announcement can be read here. (via Caschy’s Blog)
