Mozilla Lightning 1.0 Beta Released [Mozilla]

The Mozilla Lightning developers have released the first beta of the long awaited 1.0 version of the calendar extension for Mozilla Thunderbird and Mozilla SeaMonkey. Mozilla Lightning 1.0 beta 1 adds several new features to the calendar extension including seamless integration into the new Thunderbird 3.0 user interface, support for SeaMonkey 2.0 as a host application as well as improvements to the extensions’ stability, performance and memory consumption.

  • Seamless integration into the new Thunderbird 3.0 user interface
  • The different modes (calendar view, task view) are now diplayed in tabs
  • Lightning now supports SeaMonkey 2.0 as a host application
  • You can now define multiple alarms for a single event
  • CalDAV support and interoperability with various CalDAV servers have been improved
  • The application stability, performance and memory consumption have been improved
  • A full list of changes that have gone into this release can be found on The Rumbling Edge website (LINK MISSING)

It should also be noted that Lightning 1.0 beta 1 does not support Mozilla Thunderbird 2.x anymore. Users who have not switched to the new version of the email client will have to keep using Lightning 0.9x instead. It is also a good idea to check the known issues before starting the installation to avoid incompatibilities and other problems.

Mozilla Lightning 1.0 beta 1 can be downloaded from the project’s homepage at the Mozilla website.

Just a clarification, it’s Lightning, not Lighting.

I am looking forward to trying this, thanks for the review. Thunderbird for me is a breath of fresh air compared with the more clunky Outlook Express. I have over a dozen email accounts hooked into Thunderbird, with numerous rules and address books, and it almost always works like a dream.

Sunbird Beta 2 is published too on Mozilla FTP.
