Youtube has been one of the prime locations for music buffs around the world to view music videos and listen to music. Many record companies and individual artists use Youtube to promote their products. Users who have been searching for music that is distributed by the major record labels Universal Music Group, Sony Music and EMI might have already noticed that something has changed today.
Songs by popular artists like Lady Gaga, the Beastie Boys or Michael Jackson show now up with a Vevo tagging that is asking users to visit the Vevo website. Those Youtube users who wonder why should read the announcement over at the official Youtube blog. Google has apparently struck a deal with those record labels which combines Youtube technology and the record labels catalog at the new destination.

While it might make sense to build a new service that is specialized in music videos its current incarnation is everything but perfect. Here are a few reasons why:
- Vevo is only available to users from the United States. The funny thing is that it is still possible to view those music videos at Youtube even if you are not from the United States.
- It seems that the transfer to Vevo has erased previous comments and ratings of some videos.
- Vevo seems to come with additional advertisement and a few features like displaying song lyrics and artist profiles
The strategy is not really clear at this point. It could be that the parties have planned to move all of the music videos completely to Vevo so that Youtube users move to the new site for their music fix. That is, if they are from the US.
Have you tried Vevo yet? What’s your experience?

VevO blows…
takes 20 mins to watch a 4 min video so….. I downloaded it on Limewire in 1 min and a half … problem solved.
fuck u vevo.
to all of you… Stop your bitching and go back to the days when we all used to download videos and music, except now were not using napster its limewire.
BE BRAVE AND TAKE UP SPACE ON YOUR PRECIOUS 200gig HARD DRIVES. WE DID IT WHEN HARD DRIVES WERE 20 GIGS WHY CANT WE DO IT NOW.
Fin is possibly the most retarded person here.
He/she partook in an argument on the internet. It’s like partaking in the special olympics – even if you win, you’re still retarded.
thats it… stroke your ego.. stroke your ego…
Vevo or not, they still use Adobe Flash and .flv. So in order to download a video, you just need to grab the URL from your browser’s activity log. Mac, Win, Linux — works the same, just not all browsers may have an activity log.
vevo sucks to high heaven it does not even compare to your tube
I have been constantly checking back everyday to see if anyone replies to my comments. I can say, without a doubt, I have no life.
Fin, how long did it took you to notice? lol.
I just wish the emails would stop coming lol
I hate Vevo. It never loads quickly.
people shouldn’t be downloading the videos anyway. as for the pop up ads. hate them.
Vevo SUCKS, it takes forever to load and i hate it. Thing sometimes i have to watch a video with that thing and it annoys me a whole lot..
i hate it, its hard to find an official video that isn’t vevo. even with my very built computer it takes forever to load, no such thing as seamless streaming anymore. Vevo, please go away!
I dont know why people say its slow. it works on my 4 year old laptop really well. maybe I am just lucky. but I hate the damn ads. and to those who say musicians lose money from downloading the videos, they lose very very little. the record companies make the most off promotional material like that. the bands and artists make the most off concerts.
People, dont EVER click on the first video link on youtube anymore. Click on the ones with lyrics. They ACTUALLY work. I agree with everyone who says Vevo sucks ***. And anyone wishing to start a petition please just comment saying so. I will copy, paste, send, get revenge, and destroy youtube’s acclaimed Vevo.
you know…. other then the retards that are using some program they got from their friend, anyone that’s really a tech head or just someone with basic computer knowledge will be able to rip Anything from any website. Vevo sucks, its slower then a normal youtube video, it has forced advertisements at the beginning, i much rather have the little pop up at the bottom. It doesn’t work if you happen to leave the country or travel the world. And it freezes up if you try to swap videos to many times to quickly and crashes Mozilla firefox, internet explorer (but what doesn’t i mean really..) google chrome, and opera.
all of them freeze up and crash if you try to swap videos too much. thank god for firefoxes ability to save your webpages at least…
As soon as i see the VEVO logo I hit the back button.
I will not sit through a slow/choppy download or watch forced ads.
I hate when corporations hi-jack a good thing.
Terrible idea for YouTube to hook up with VEVO.
VEVO SUCKS
Same old story…
What starts out as ‘Garage’ – fun for everyone, no hassles and Free, ends up turing ‘Coroporate’ at some point. Then come the rules, restrictions, ‘disclaimers’, ‘copyrights’ and all the rest – i.e., ‘fun’ is gone.
No different than a ‘start-up’ company with weekly Friday ‘beer-busts’. Alas, necessity being the mother of invention, I’m sure it won’t be long before a couple of enterprising young gents will figure out a ‘new’ way to provide hassle-free music/videos for the masses.
The god of inconvenience now as NONE of these Vevo powered music vids run on iPhone and I assume ANY smartphone for that matter.
Video Converter for Mac converts any popular video formats such as AVI, FLV(flash video), MOV, WMV(windows media), MKV, and more to iPad friendly formats easily and rapidly.

lulz, reading some of this stuff is hilarious. Don’t slam other peoples’ opinions. Yeesh.
As far as the “debate” above me went, though, you all make valid points. And to me, both are right.
I don’t really like Vevo. For some reason the little watermark thing on the videos annoys me. I don’t like change xD everytime I see it I go: “This is Youtube! YOUTUBE!”
Other than that, though, I only had issues with it for a while. No problems as of late, though.
i think Vevo Sucks on youtube They Have Censored all the Videos
i liked it when google didnt own you tube
before vevo and the new layout and adds galore
Their strategy is not clear!? Yes it is!
They want more control.
Now that wouldn’t be such a problem if they wanted control over their own lives, as all sane, rational people do. However, they want more control over YOU!
It’s convenient for them, not you. YouTube was as convenient as it would ever be. Type shit in, get results. Companies don’t like that kind of freedom. It makes it expensive and difficult to track you.
Solution? Put them all in the same tracking bugged place, disable downloads and load your bandwidth up with useless bullshit ads (in high res).
The real problem is Capitalism. The incentive should be on quality, not theft. They claim the users steal. I beg to differ.
They push shit I DO NOT WANT on me, sell me over-priced low-quality crap (I wouldn’t listen to 90% of that horrible shit if I was paid $20/hr!), follow you around like a serial killer and if their spam wasn’t enough, they also sell your information to other spammy assholes. That’s how they got rich. THEY STOLE FROM YOU! They stole your time, your identity and your money.
And you claim the recession is just a fluke. Selling low quality crap and stealing lower the value of currency. Dur hur hur!
i am along w/ most of the people…Vevo is probably one of the worst things that youtube could have done…whenever im looking for videos i have to look at the publisher of the video…if it has Vevo in it i pass it completely..as..1) slows my whole computer down..2)youtube is slowed wayyyy down..and 3) the ads are annoying…
also..the new layout i think is stupid and pointless…youtube’s layout should have been left alone as it was just fine..thanks alot google…
VEVO and all content providers follow the corporate maxum: ‘fuck the consumer. Take their time and money, and give them as little as possible in return’. The RIAA spends millions and works so feverishly at combating music and video piracy, whilst stubbornly refusing to even consider the primary motivations behind such behaviour. Piracy isn’t just about getting something for free, it’s about circumnavigating the brutal assault of marketing one has to suffer through normal channels of content distribution. TV isn’t free. When you watch a five minute block of adverts, you have paid the content provider with five minutes of your invaluable and unrecoverable time. Ridiculously, we even pay companies like Comcast for cable and internet access, when Comcast itself sells billions in advertising that we are forced to watch. Until the corporate world stops treating consumers like a crop to be harvested rather than a partner in a symbiotic relationship, the intelligent, self-respecting consumer will fight back anyway he can. As long as content providers maintain the attitude that the needs of advertisers come first, and consumers can either put up with the mind numbing intrusion of advertising or get stuffed, consumers will similarly maintain a ‘fuck it’ attitude when it comes to the rights of content owners. I know I do.
I’m not from the US..
Am being deprived of music here…………….
vevo’s sound quality sucks! :(
Vevo is awful…slow and nearly always forced to listen to a commercial
If Google says “don’t be evil” then why is it working with Vivo?
I am sooooo disappointed in google for getting in bed with this pro-censorship Vivo monster.
Fin’s right. You can’t “steal” what you can make a copy of for free.
Musicians make a killing on piracy because it helps good artists become more popular. Recording industry douchebags who pump out sugary pop icon after sugary pop icon in order to flood real artists out of the market lose, because they can no longer get away with demanding $20 for a CD with one shitty single written by a 45-year-old man in a Hollywood studio about the trials of being a 14-year-old girl.
i enjoyed the fact that youtube was the people’s site.they downloaded their own videos, much of the time it might have been a record playing on a turntable or flashing or scrolling images.what this vevo thing is leading up to is to begin charging people to watch videos on youtube.these videos won’t remain free to be viewed .it’s obvious that no too long from now,we’ll be seeing fees per video on youtube//whata skanky thing to do to people who’ve used youtube for so many years!!this is horrible and i’m surprised that youtube.com is allowing this.to replace the average joe with the corporate faction is just plain wrong.what a crappy thing to pull on people who relied on youtube to be the place to let people see their videos.youtube was a community where people actually could forum and post and comment on one anothers videos.apparently youtube doesn’t give a crap that they’re destroying all that.
