Firefox 3.5.5

The Mozilla Firefox developers are currently distributing the latest official version of the Firefox 3.5.x branch to ftp servers around the globe. Firefox 3.5.5. will soon be announced officially at the official Mozilla website. Most Firefox users will get update notifications about the new version eventually with a high likelihood that the update notifications will appear later today in the web browser if automatic updates are enabled in the Internet browser.

The release notes are – as usual – not up yet and the fixed bugs list at Bugzilla shows only four fixes in this latest version. One of the bugs that has been fixed was rated critical on the other hand with the other three rated as normal.

The description of the release on the Mozilla website states that it is a “short-cycle security and sustained engineering release to fix several top crashing bugs”. In other words a stability update for the web browser. The Firefox release schedule which we posted a few days ago indicates that the next version of the web browser (Firefox 3.5.6) will be released about a month from now on December 15.

We have uploaded the US-English version of Firefox 3.5.5:

Mac
Windows
Linux

Cautious users might want to wait until the official release announcement is public to update their browser from the official source.

I installed it. So far the "What’s New" site doesn’t work yet. The new version works with all of my extensions, and that’s the important part. Thanks Lifehacker! :-) #firefox

I know i don’t speak programming code or anything, but couldn’t they find better lingo than "Inserting multiple children without flushing"?

@the41stgrave: They could say it in a way that you might find better, but it wouldn’t be as accurate.

The terminology is what it is. #firefox

@Platypus Man: Yeah. And what it is, is ridiculous. It wouldn’t be, if the humor of it wasn’t lost on programmers. #firefox

@paintbox: No, I agree it’s ridiculous. I see the humor in it. But it’s like laughing at someone who speaks a foreign language because their language sounds funny in yours — they get the joke, but the words mean what they mean and your interpretation won’t change that.

And if you look at it, it makes sense. A parent spawns children, which can then be killed and flushed out. A male plug fits into a female port. You can have a master drive and a slave drive. It’s all very accurate, but it doesn’t "translate" well. #firefox

  12. thank you martin. More detail what could be an outstanding improvement in this update?

  13. Wish they could get FF right on the Mac. It’s still the biggest resource hog going. I’m getting 15+% cpu usage regularly and Safari uses around 1% on Snowy. #firefox
