Remember the WinX DVD Ripper Platinum giveaway last month? The same company is now giving away the DVD authoring software WinX DVD Author. The software program can create DVDs from various video formats. The software supports video formats like avi, mpeg, rm, flv or mov among others which can be loaded into the interface. The program itself is as easy to use as the DVD ripper. It is possible to author a DVD with just a few clicks.
The whole process is divided into three easy to follow steps. The user adds videos to the program in step 1. Various information about the videos – like the bitrate, playtime or screen resolution, are displayed in that step. Here it is also possible to switch between DVD-5 and DVD-9 DVD DVDs, aspect ratios and Pal or Ntsc video formats.

The DVD menu is created in the second step. Several templates are available in that section and there are editing possibilities to add text, move elements around and to add background music to the DVD menu structure.

The actual DVD creation is handled in the third step. Here it is possible to select the DVD burner, volume name, output folder for the video_ts folder and output quality settings.

Here are some information about the software program:
- Supported Video Formats: AVI, ASF, WMV, MPEG, MP4, MOV, RM, RMVB, XviD, DivX, H.264, OGG, QT, FLV, etc.
- Disc Type: DVD+/-R, DVD+/-RW, DVD DL+R, DVD DL+/-RW, etc.
- Platforms: Windows 98, NT, 2000, 2003, XP, Vista (32 & 64 bit), Windows 7 (32 & 64 bit)
- Language: English, French, Chinese, German, Italian, Japanese, Spanish, etc.
- Subtitle support
- Video clipping
WinX DVD Author can be downloaded for free for the rest of October from the developer’s website.

was looking for just this type of program two weeks ago. Better late then never! #dvds

Similarly, I was wondering how it compares with DVD Flick. Anyone have experience across some of these programs? #dvds

Does this rip protected DVDs? Which protection schemes does it support, and which ones does it fail at?

I wonder how this works compared to CloneDVDMobile…
I’ll try it out, thanks LH! #dvds
This comment was originally posted on Lifehacker, tips and downloads for getting things done
CloneDVD Mobile “only” imports from DVD drive which seems pity to me :(
I got really excited about this… until I remembered I have a rapidshare premium account. #dvds

@wicketr: on their site it says it bypasses css, sony arccos, reginos 1-6 and commercial dvds. #dvds
This comment was originally posted on Lifehacker, tips and downloads for getting things done
@wicketr: Read down on the page, looks like it supports everything. And if it doesn’t get protected DVDs, google a way to get around DVD CSS protection. #dvds

Probably answered somewhere on their website, but with DVD Ripper Platinum, how can you edit the movie files after ripping? The author, title, etc, are always locked. (sorry, I’m still kinda new at DVD ripping, as I JUST got my computer upgraded to something good) #dvds
This comment was originally posted on Lifehacker, tips and downloads for getting things done
@wicketr: Nope! I had to use DVD43 first. It worked beautifully thereafter.

Site is getting slammed right now, and for good reason. Supported protections are (from the website):
CSS protocted DVD, Region 1-6, sony ArccOS, Commercial DVD.
My measly 6mb download is being estimated at 6 minutes. Busy busy busy. #dvds

I’ll stick with the open source DVD Flick, thanks. #dvds
This comment was originally posted on Lifehacker, tips and downloads for getting things done
@MePerson: I’ll second that. For me, open source isn’t necessarily about the ability to edit/add features. I just feel more comfortable installing OSS, because I believe there’s less of a chance that some other program (read: crapware, spyware, etc.) will hitch a ride.
Oh, and DVD Flick is excellent.

I use DVD Flick regularly, but I like how easy it is to manipulate the menus on this program.
However, I really wish it offered to write an ISO file as an option. I also wish it had menus instead of mostly-unlabeled buttons.
I can’t really complain, because my two options are both free right now. #dvds

Just as a note, the Ripper is only "Free" if you do one of those stupid ‘free offers’ from netflix/gamefly/blockbuster/etc.
It should be noted so other people don’t waste their time as well. #dvds

@edosan: Dammit. That means I’m stupid. Well, to be factually accurate, it means I’m too impatient to look further than the first link that looks correct.
Stupid brain. Thanks tho. #dvds

Is it free or just a free trial till the end of October? From their site it almost sounds as if the Install will start nagging or just flat out stop working come the 31st. #dvds

powel212 :
DeVeDe requires a bunch of other applications in order to be able to make a dvd.
You sure aren’t clear about what you’re saying.
My 2 cents you only wanted to direct to their web site.
i like convertxtodvd the best. i pirated the retail version. garrrrr matey! #dvds

@MasterChi!?!: Is is free. There is a faq just below one of the software download links saying that this download will be fully functional forever, just not eligible for upgrades. #dvds

@MePerson: Ditto. WinX DVD looks good, but it’s not worth the sign-up for a service I don’t want. #dvds

I just d/l’ed this last night and tried to convert my video cam files to DVD. The app kept crashing when I was adding files to the "queue". I don’t think this had any horrible effects on my system or files, but you should be aware. Also, this appears to be developed by non-native english speakers judging by the "english" on the site.
Just my $0.02. #dvds
