what cracks me up is that when you go to adsweep’s site you are greeted with what? none other than an obnoxious flashing banner ad telling you that “no kidding, you’ve won a million dollars”. utterly hilarious.

No matter what brower you are using AdMucher a much better solution can block ads. It blocks ads system wide, block ads in xfire, messenger ect… all the others just can’t compete. It even works in Windows 7

Well a much awaited extension for CHROME, but am I missing the point?

First of all lets just ignore the rather messy installation – not quite as slick as Firefox Add-ons.

Once installed, when I go to a website with adverts, the ads appear briefly and then disappear from my screen. Surely the whole point of an ad blocker is that my screen refreshes faster and that I do not waste my broadband downloading the adverts in the first place?

Once I have waited and downloaded the various animated adverts – they might as well stay on the screen. My own built in eye / brain filters are quite capable of just ignoring adverts.

Good effort – must try harder!

I second Saurabh’s concern, plus the fact that it doesn’t block tracking counters.

Adsweep cannot be compared to adblock plus . Adsweep only hides the ads while abp blocks them. This means the ads are still downloaded and there is no gain in bandwidth, page loading time,etc. Conserving bandwidth has remained the primary priority for me as I am stuck on a monthly 1.5 GB limit.

Is it just me or is this missing the point?

First of all what a messy installation – not quite as slick as Firefox add-ons.

But then when I go to a webpage with adverts I find that the adverts are displayed on the screen for a second – THEN AdSweep gets rid of them.
Surely the whole point of ad blocking is that I get a faster screen refresh and do not waste my broadband loading adverts?

finally I will be able to get rid of those OBNOXIOUS advertising schemes some sites use! Have you seen those hideous mouseover text popups that some places have been using? Complete crap. Glad to be rid of them.

With AdSweep you can just use the Extension for Chrome and change the chrome shortcut to chorme.exe –enable-extensions
