isPermaLink="false">http://www.ghacks.net/?p=13116#comment-806727

It sounds about right. When you get right down to it, 2.0 held a great many new features, including the ability to compare windows side-by-side, full-page zoom, full-screen, numerous bug fixes, form autocomplete, middle-click scrolling, extra CSS3, and a faster javascript engine.
Sure, you might argue that it should have had those already, but that was only the very first version.
Now, Google is working on Chrome 3.0. This will include HTML5 support, plug-ins, extensions, maybe theming, and probably a few more. The extensions alone are important enough to warrant another version jump.
The current 3.0 is only "What will be called 3.0, in a number of months, once it's finally released." It's completely unfit for public consumption, and is in what was called the 'developer preview channel'. The idea there is for developers to see some of the new features and to give their own feedback.
For smaller-scale updates, once Chrome has managed to reach the same level as everyone else, I could expect them to have less version jumps. Unless they continue with their extreme innovations, and start pulling the other browsers forward. You never know.

It sounds about right.
