[...] We’ve covered methods of slipstreaming and creating your own custom Windows update disks before, with tools like Windows Update Maker, AutoPatcher, and nLite. PatchMateXP offers a radically simplified—albeit all or nothing—approach to updating your Windows installation. Updated monthly, PatchMateXP is meant to be burned onto a CD and run from within Windows. It applies every update release for Windows. If you need granular control over your updates to avoid known complications with your hardware, peripherals, or software and a particular Windows update you’ll definitely want to skip PatchMateXP and check out the tools above for more selective installation. PatchMateXP is a free tool, Windows only. PatchMateXP [via gHacks] [...]

Hello, I wrote PatchMateXP and this seems to be an issue with AVG and AVAST Antivirus. It must be a false positive. I have used TrendMicro OfficeScan 7.3, Symantec Anti-Virus Corp Edition 10 and Adaware 2008 all with the latest definition files and none of them are detecting a trojan. It could be that AVG and AVAST doesn't like that I created the executable files from .cmd files. I'm in the process of contacting AVG and AVAST about this issue. I'd like their engineers to take a look at PatchMateXP and give a report. Also, PatchMate XP is available for download from Download.com.
CNET runs anti-virus and spyware scans on all files uploaded to their site and it lists PatchMateXP as being spyware free.

This is not the first time AVG has detected files as trojans or viruses that were not. See here: http://forums.tigsource.com/index.php?action=printpage%3Btopic=4645.0

I am an AVAST affiliate for Pete's sake. I wouldn't put out malware. If this becomes too big an issue, I'll just release the code and be done with it.

Thanks

David: me too, avast! Home Edition notifies me about several files (IEDetect*.exe, patch.exe, and some of the Hotfix executables) infected with a "Win32:Trojan-gen {Other}" virus/worm. Perhaps it's a false positive, but I'm not taking any chances

Downloaded the latest version of PatchMate. At unzip AVG immediately popped up showing the PatchMate application files EDetectX.exe (four files) and patch.exe are infected with the Dropper.Agent.MOI trojan horse. Anyone else seeing this?
