Windows 7 Release Candidate Released

windows 7Microsoft has released the long awaited release candidate build of their upcoming Windows 7 operating system according to a post on Windows 7 News. The post refers to a page on the Microsoft Partner Program website containing a download link for the Windows 7 release candidate that is currently only available to selected partners. It is however very likely that it will be activated for all partners soon.

Interested users without a subscription to MSDN or Technet will have to wait until May 5 before they can download the release candidate as this is the date when it will be publicly released by Microsoft. The page containing the download link does not contain any additional information about the release candidate but the race has begun to post the first screenshots and information about the release candidate.

It is very likely that the release candidate will leak to P2P networks (most likely originating from Russia or China as the other leaks came from those countries as well) soon and that many users will start downloading the new build from there.

it seems this was a false alarm :(

There are so many rumors and then rumors of other rumors floating around the blogosphere. I have heard nothing definitive today. What we do know is this…
    a) Builds in both branches for RTM and RC are being compiled each day.
    b) Windows development team, ISV’s, OEM’s, VAR’s and other partners are still testing. Which means they have not set the final build yet.
    c) Several MSFT web site accidents (sic) have revealed some ideas for RC dates but only key players at MSFT know the real dates. Things can change at any moment.
    d) Build 7082 may leak but it is not the final RC by any means
    e) Windows 7 RC will be available in the next few days or weeks, officially or unofficially
    d) TechNet and MSDN can only download build 7000 as this post
    e) People who know what’s going on are not saying.
    f) There is no build 7200.

Latest known builds (not leaked) are:
    6.1.7088.0.winmain_win7rc.090419-1500
    6.1.7113.0.winmain.090417-18xx

Read somewhere that MSFT has locked down some of the distro servers for a big download event. Crossing my eyes until the event. LOL
