In general I can't say I like some of what google is doing, even some of the links/ads on gmail's top bar lead to placeholders. That is probably my main gripe with these ideas...that google themselves do some things that they basically disallow users from doing. The ability to put ads on irrelevant pages equals spam - never mind squatting - in my opinion. What else does google have to go on except the words in the url? that makes it irrelevant, all these google terms of service that say I can't put ads here and there (on real web pages) because the content is breaking some rule were and are not even more silly now.
