I managed to format my hidden restore partition from a ubuntu live cd. I was trying to follow a guide about how to format a usb stick so I could have persistent changes when using the live cd. sudo this sudo that. Guess I should be glad I had a restore partition as my first partition otherwise my os would have been wiped. Safe, but still possible for someone like me to do damage.

A Live CD with a built-in video tutorial and a friendlier user interface would help Linux acceptance a lot more than relying on spreading the word to geeks who like command line interfaces. Just because command lines look mythical and mysterious - cool.
