thanks, Xmetalfanx, but my researches led me to this software also. Yes, “but”, because the tool was totally useless for me. It happened that a service was the cause of the slowness. The whole story was that after I tried a specific software that allows to map a drive for an ftp server, the startup was much slower. and that was an important service that was doing that. obviously, it was something related to the network, but I could never find what. So, finally, this tool could only point me to a generic microsoft service, which is indeed totally useless(no way I can afford to disable it).

so, that’s my story about bootvis.

you can probably (if you know what to look for and exactly how to tweak it) do that with BootVis .. Despite what MS says “XP users DO NOT NEED THIS ” .. I have found it helps a bit .. granted it’s not “OMG !.. BOOT IS 300% FASTER NOW!”… but after “optimizing bootup” in BootVis, I did notice a reasonable speedup in startup timing.

I can do same with my watch.
It would start to be interesting if it could say what is slowing down, especially which service.
