isPermaLink="false">http://www.ghacks.net/?p=8343#comment-1012757

Just want to let folks know that Everything CAN slow down a system given how absolutely huge hard drives have become. And it will slow down your system when you are not conducting any search at all (ie- when it is indexing). So you might seriously consider using the option to exclude some file types, at least.
Btw, I do have an older system, but it's a damn stable workstation and it still meets my needs (Tyan MPX board w/ two physical 1.2GHZ Athlon MP processors, 2GB error-correcting Corsair RAM, and 2 physical ATA HDDs -- each w/ 500GB. Yes, today's PCs are faster to be sure, but I think this should be fast enough not to be bogged down by an indexing app -- esp w/ two CPUs.)
Just thought of another suggestion: limiting Everything indexing to use of one particular CPU. I think Microsoft provided a CPU affinity application some time ago that should work for this, though perhaps it can be done another way too. And it might be possible to do this w/ multiple-core processors, now found in all new PCs on the market.

Just want to let folks know that Everything CAN slow down a system given how absolutely huge hard drives have become. Yes, I know that Google Desktop will give me the contents of files, photo thumbnails and gadgets but I don't really need them.
As a keyboard fan Everything finds everything I want. It even has its own programable shortcut to bring it up... something that InSight Desktop Search can't do.
I now have a system that allows me to launch Everything to my system tray using Launchy and then I use Ctrl, Alt, Shift & E to bring up Everything to fine exactly what I want. Who needs a filing system? :-0

Hey, I want to say Thanks to you Everything fans. Martin: Thanx, no I haven't and frankly I probably never will. Sorry I was double wrong. I'm just rather enamored with Everything and I don't often need to Search within a file - I do like to find a file quickly - so quickly it can even double as a launcher.

MK: My bad. anyway, looks like naming a software after a verb is the in thing right now. they are pretty confusing when you put them on a post title, though.

correction idodialog, Everything is the one that is easier to install, compared to Locate.

anyway, looks like naming a software after a verb is the in thing right now. they are pretty confusing when you put them on a post title, though.

By: idodialog

<guid

Compared to Everything, Locate is way slow and uses heaps of resources whenever it indexes. Everything, on the other hand is completely un-noticeable (and I have a fairly old system) and will find a file that only just installed onto my machine - immediately. Further - compared to Everything, Locate (which I have used for a long time) is simple and needs pretty well no setup or administration. It is far and away the most friendly and effective search engine I have ever used.

Locate does not look inside files (content).
