Open Office 3 Final

The final release of Open Office 3 has already been distributed to various mirror sites to make sure the official announcement on Monday 13 will not see any complications. Users who are eager to try out the final release can head over to the list of Open Office mirror sites and pick one near their location.

The path of the final release is usually openoffice/stable/3.0.0/ on the ftp mirrors. Available are releases for all supported operating systems and the source codes. The release notes have not been updated yet but there cannot be many changes between Release Candidate 4 and the final release of Open Office due to the lack of time between the releases.

Cautious users should wait until Monday to download and install the release after the official announcement of the Open Office team.

For me atleast the win32 package fails to install, an error occurs right at the end and it rollsback…. JOY! bring on 3.0.1…

  2. Jack says:

When I check for updates, I get this message”Checking for an update failed” And the the reason for failure “Could not establish an Internet connection to update30.services.openoffice.org”
    How do I fix this?

  3. Olly says:

Chances are they’ll bring that service up over the weekend, i wouldnt worry about it just yet.

  4. Jack says:

I had the same problem with OpenOffice v2.4.1

  5. Martin says:

Have downloaded the Windows version and have had multiple problems under Vista, so it’s back to v2.4 for me. These included screen corruption, problems with preview in the ‘load slide design’ dialog in Impress, and loss of sound in mpgs embedded in Impress, which worked fine in v2.4. It’s a big step backwards in my book.

  6. Vijay Eswaran says:

I’d been planning to upgrade from Office 2003 to Office 2007 since moving to Vista. I may just give OpenOffice a spin and see if I can use it for work. Am a bit worried about compatibility since I have to frequently send documents to my clients, who’re mostly using Microsoft Office.

  7. DeadTux says:

I have no problem using openoffice coz I run it in Linux. I run it in few Windows pc just to show other how powerful Calc against Excel. So Windows apologizer, can’t u live without open source software? Joomla, Firefox, Chrome, even Nokia sells Maemo 5 smartphone. I guess without foss, you’ll be stuck in the middle of nowhere. :D IE 8? Get real …
