The Firefox 3 attempt at the World Record for the most downloaded software in the first 24 hours after release was successful with more than 7.1 million downloads in that time not counting those users who updated the browser internally or downloaded it from third-party sources. It was not that surprising considering that there was nothing to beat than themselves in the first place.
Users can even download and print a Record certificate directly from the Spread Firefox website which certifies that they were part in the biggest one-click world record of all time. Only the name has to be entered which will later be seen on the printout.
The top ten countries to download Firefox 3 have been in that time:
- United States: 2.368 million (304 million people)
- Germany: 0.502 million (82 million people)
- Japan: 0.372 million (127 million people)
- Spain: 0.261 million (45 million people)
- United Kingdom: 0.258 million (60 million people)
- France: 0.253 million (64 million people)
- Italy: .0213 million (59 million people)
- Iran: 0.207 million (71 million people)
- Canada: 0.200 million (33 million people)
- Poland: 0.176 million (38 million people)
The download count pretty much depends on the infrastructure and development of a country next to its population obviously. The country with the lowest downloads was probably Chad with 1 download.

Iran?
Iran was probably the US troops.
There are no US troops in Iran, what you mean is Iraq.
I am wondering which countries would have shown up in such a list if you put it in relation with how many people live in the country.
Shame on my Ukraine. We are dummies against to Poland.
Wasn’t this going to be a world record no matter what? This created the record.
Australia almost made it with 175,000, lol! So close. Would of been the smallest nation with 20ish million people. Start spreading the word for download day firefox 4 style!
Unlike what you might think Iran is really an advanced country and people in iran live very luxurious lives, I am an Iranian and when i moved to canada to pursue my masters degree i was shocked to see North american life lacks the luxury and comfort of life in iran. call it high oil revenues but really iran’s industrial backbone is deep and Internet access is widespread among users
The lowest number of downloads per country would probably be North Korea with 0 downloads.
@Cyrus Jones
That is funny and at the same time a sad fact. The people there are really suffering and then we don’t talk about just internet stuff. They probably don’t even know what internet is.
Here’s the top ten list showing number downloads per country as a function of population:
1. United States (7.78 per 1000 persons)
2. Germany (6.12)
3. Canada (6.06)
4. Spain (5.80)
5. Poland (4.63)
6. United Kingdom (4.30)
7. France (3.95)
8. Italy (3.61)
9. Japan (2.93)
10. Iran (2.92)
This only takes into account the countries in the original list. It would likely change if all countries were included.

If you see it this way it becomes clear that there is still much work to do for Mozzila.
