Opera 9.5 final released

Opera fans rejoice. After a seemingly endless series of Beta versions and one release candidate the Opera developer team has finally uploaded Opera 9.5 final to the ftp site. The release is available in English and for International users and cannot be downloaded from anywhere else currently. The homepage still states coming soon which will probably change later this day.

Here are the download links for Windows, Linux and Macintosh.

The build number of the Windows release is 10063. It comes a bit as a surprise after the recent release of the first release candidate of Opera 9.5. There cannot be a lot of changes between this version and the release candidate earlier this week. As always there is no information yet on the changes, think we just have to wait a bit longer for the official release announcement.

    Hi Martin…

well i downloaded Opera 9.5 as soon as i read your RSS feed. it does open a lot of the websites which previously dint open in opera. however, the first problem i noticed was that it takes a LOT OF TIME to start. opera 9.27 was quick. this one seems to eat a lot of memory and CPU resources. frankly i was disappointed with this version just for this reason. the older opera was so much quicker and smooth.
anyone else having the same problem??

    Hey Martin…

In reference to my post above… well previously i had installed the new version over my previous one, i.e. upgraded it. later, i uninstalled opera and did a fresh install and everything became super cool…
opera’s my favourite browser once again… and frankly, mozilla can go suck an egg…

Cool but I am waiting few more updates. :) It was in beta for months but there are always few bugs only release reveals – especially in major update.

Sounds a lot like inplace upgrade issue… If you just dropped 9.50 on top of 9.27 try clean install instead.

Opera 9.5 seemed to be having a strange problem when working with wordpress. I attempted to write up a quick post, but whenever I hit the enter button it actually moved the current paragraph down and started the new one above it. Maybe it’s just me, but that’s pretty much a make or break deal for me. If I can’t update my blog, then it’s bye-bye opera.

  6. Kaixi says:

@Angelo R.: Post the issue in the Opera Community forum. The devs of Opera Team do take a look at the posts from time to time.

  7. Binx says:

I installed 9.5, and apart from disliking the overall look of the thing, there’s one small problem I can’t seem to overcome. All my bookmarks have lost their icons. This is infuriating, since I can’t instantly spot the one I want, but have to laboriously read through them. Have I missed something obvious, or does anyone else have the same problem ?

  8. Rarst says:

    >disliking the overall look of the thing
    Change skin – solved.

    >All my bookmarks have lost their icons.
Was it clean install or on top of previous version? Anyway my educated guess is that they are going to reappear when you visit corresponding sites.

  9. Binx says:

It was on top of previous version, which is why I was surprised. But no, the icons haven’t reappeared after visiting sites !!!

  10. Rarst says:

Do you get icons on new bookmakrs? If you do – try cleaning opera cache and killing icons files manually (don’t remember exact place, just look for tons of tiny graphic files in Opera folders).

If you don’t – time to try clean install and bug-report.

Have anyone know how to downgrade from 9.5 to 9.27?

  12. Sancho says:

I too was psyched to see 9.5 come out, but I’ve got a few complaints/words of warning for early adopters:

    1. Attempting to download files by left clicking the link opens a new page and the percentage stalls almost immediately, typically less the 10%. The right-click “Save Linked Content As…” option seems to work, but files are often corrupted (e.g., zips won’t open, but are fine if i d/l with IE 7). Right-click option doesn’t work for files that auto-launch once a page starts to load.

    2. Some web sites refuse to open (again, the stalled x% complete problem). They open fine in IE 7.

both the above probs do not occur in Opera 9.27.

NB: If you use Opera for email BE WARNED! A new format is in use, and if you convert your mail you cannot downgrade to 9.27 and still use mail (browser will work but you will not have access to your mail). Reupgrading to 9.5x works fine, mail is there, but so are the aforementioned problems.

Guess I’ll go post on the Community forums and hopefully find a fix.
