Seems that June is the month not only of Opera 9.5 final but also the one of Firefox 3. The Mozilla team has just announced that June 17th will be the release date for the final version of Firefox 3. You can expect to get a heads up message here at Ghacks as soon as the release has been transferred to the public Mozilla ftp site. Ghacks readers get the release faster and without all the slow transfer rates that could probably occur on such an important release date for the Mozilla team.
It took the Mozilla team more than 34 months to create the new Firefox version, a long time indeed. On a side note, the Mozilla Firefox team wants the world record. Which you may ask. The world record for the most downloaded software in the first 24 hours after release date. You can still pledge your loyalty to the cause at the Spread Firefox website. Somewhat silly but a nice popularity stunt.
Whenever we’re asked “when is Firefox going to be released” we endeavor to answer to the best of our abilities, but the truth of the matter is that we’ll only ever ship “when it’s ready”. We have a lot of indicators that help us understand when the product is ready for release: feedback from our pre-release milestones, excitement in the community and the press, availability of compatible Add-Ons, and a large active beta community helping us ensure that the release is compatible with all the various sites on the Internet.
To celebrate the event Mozilla parties are planned. Currently more than 420 parties are listed at the Mozilla Party website. Everyone can join a party there or host one.
