There have been many rumors about the release date of the next Microsoft operating system codenamed Windows 7 ranging from early 2009 to late 2010. The speculation was fueled by Bill Gate’s remark that Windows 7 would be released three years after Windows Vista. No one knew for sure what he meant when making the statement. Did he mean three years after the announcement of Windows Vista which would mean a release date in the third quarter of 2008, after completing Windows Vista which would see a release of Windows 7 in the fourth quarter of 2009 or did he mean three years after the worldwide release of Windows Vista which would mean a release of Windows 7 in the first quarter of 2010.
According to Chris Flores who wrote the article Communicating Windows 7 on his blog the Windows 7 Microsoft “is still on track to ship approximately three years after the general availability of Windows Vista” which would mean that we can expect a release of Windows 7 in the first quarter of 2010. It is highly unlikely that it will be released earlier than that but difficulties or changes could delay the release further.
As of now the projected release date of Windows 7 will be in 2010. Chris is commenting on another rumor that made its rounds on the Internet. Some news sites reported that Windows 7 would ship with a new Windows kernel. This rumor is not true. Windows 7 will be build on a refined “kernel architecture and componentization model” that was introduced in Windows Vista.
There you have it folks, about 18 months left until Microsoft will release Windows 7 to the general public if they manage to keep their schedule.
