Is this the official released exe?

Martin says, May 7th, 2008

I’ve already downloaded the SP3 but could you not forget about Polish readers? ;]

Thanks for the heads up on the post. Too bad Microsoft is going to quit supporting XP. I have Vista on a couple of pcs and I still like XP better so far. FYI, I found your post thru a post I read at Lifehacker.

+1 for Polish SP3 releases

Jerry says, May 8th, 2008

Question: Does anyone know if SP3 also has SP1 and SP2 included in SP3 or would I have to obtain copies of each one ??

The reason I ask is that I have several computers with Windows XP Pro on them. If Microsoft drops support for XP, they may also drop all the SP’s from their site.

Now if a hard drive goes bad and XP Pro has to be reinstalled on a new drive, I want to be able to get all the Service Packs. If SP3 has them all, I’m OK.

Thanks in advance.

Jerry as far as I know SP2 is required to be able to install SP3.

Thanks for the links! I’m only installing SP3 on one of my two machines. The other one is getting Ubuntu 8.04. The first one will follow before Microsoft drops XP support. Vista is a great OS to convince people to go with ANY other operating system. Even booting Ubuntu from CD was faster than Vista!

SP3 includes SP1 and SP2 and all the updates that is included in them, hence the increased size of SP3 over SP2.

Martin says, May 9th, 2008

Jason I would like to direct you to a Microsoft website, it states: Note You must have either Windows XP Service Pack 1a or Windows XP Service Pack 2 installed in order to install Windows XP Service Pack 3.

The SP3 also only contains the fixes of SP2 and not the previous ones, hence the requirement.

Martin:

Thank you for that URL link. That tells me the answer to my question.

Just in case, I’m going to download SP3, SP2 and SP1a
and a page copy of the URL and burn them to a DVD.

Thank you again.

So will Microsoft leave SP1, SP2, and SP3 on their website for download after Microsoft stops supporting XP?
