Standalone Windows XP SP3 Download List

The Service Pack 3 for Windows XP has finally be added again to Windows Update and the Microsoft website and every user has the opportunity to download and install it. I never liked Windows Update and prefer to download the patches, which includes the Service Pack 3, as a direct download so that I can burn it once on a CD or DVD and distribute it to every computer that needs the update.

To make it easier for you I have collected the download links for the most important language versions of Windows XP Service Pack 3. A complete list can be found at Tip and Trick.

The ISO is provided for system administrators who have to distribute the Service Pack to several computers. There should not be a problem however to distribute the executable version of the service pack to multiple computers as well as long as they are all using the same language version.

  1. Keule says:

Is this the official released exe?

  2. Martin says:

Yes those are the offical versions.

  3. eRIZ says:

I’ve already downloaded the SP3 but could you not forget about Polish readers? ;]

  4. Chris says:

Thanks for the heads up on the post. Too bad Microsoft is going to quit supporting XP. I have Vista on a couple of pcs and I still like XP better so far. FYI, I found your post thru a post I read at Lifehacker.

  5. ReT says:

    +1 for Polish SP3 releases

  6. Jerry says:

Question: Does anyone know if SP3 also has SP1 and SP2 included in SP3 or would I have to obtain copies of each one ??

The reason I ask is that I have several computers with Windows XP Pro on them. If Microsoft drops support for XP, they may also drop all the SP’s from their site.

Now if a hard drive goes bad and XP Pro has to be reinstalled on a new drive, I want to be able to get all the Service Packs. If SP3 has them all, I’m OK.

    Thanks in advance.

  7. Martin says:

Jerry as far as I know SP2 is required to be able to install SP3.

  8. mobilediesel says:

Thanks for the links! I’m only installing SP3 on one of my two machines. The other one is getting Ubuntu 8.04. The first one will follow before Microsoft drops XP support. Vista is a great OS to convince people to go with ANY other operating system. Even booting Ubuntu from CD was faster than Vista!

  9. Jason says:

SP3 includes SP1 and SP2 and all the updates that is included in them, hence the increased size of SP3 over SP2.

  10. Martin says:

Jason I would like to direct you to a Microsoft website, it states: Note You must have either Windows XP Service Pack 1a or Windows XP Service Pack 2 installed in order to install Windows XP Service Pack 3.

The SP3 also only contains the fixes of SP2 and not the previous ones, hence the requirement.

    Martin:

Thank you for that URL link. That tells me the answer to my question.

Just in case, I’m going to download SP3, SP2 and SP1a
and a page copy of the URL and burn them to a DVD.

    Thank you again.

  12. Mememe says:

So will Microsoft leave SP1, SP2, and SP3 on their website for download after Microsoft stops supporting XP?

  13. Bob says:

Martn – first of all, being able to download a standalone SP3 is a godsend (using Firefox3). Many thanks.

I realize the heat of this discussion has ebbed, but I wanted to weigh in on remarks that SP2 must be installed prior to installation of SP 3. I think I disagree.

Had I installed just the update to SP 3 (my computer was fully updated with all patches since XP 2), the download would have been 69 megs for just SP3.

Since ghacks offers the standalone at 316 megs, I was thinking that the standalone contains all 3. If I just need SP3, do you think it’s likely I’ll run into any problems with the full standalone version?

    TIA

  14. Terry says:

  17. Frank says:

    Hi Guys,

I am trying to compile an nLite disk for XP Pro SP2. I have downloaded SP3 ready for slipstreaming, however does anyone have a list of MS hotfixes which have occurred since SP3′s release, as I am trying to integrate these into the install media?

I have searched the web and Microsoft site (no surprise) to no avail – can you help?

  23. myadds says:

I am managing 500 computers and if i install OS and SP3 on any computer then i have to install updates, from where i can get standalone hotfix files which released after SP3

  24. stevec says:

Wow. I’ve been messing around for hours trying to help a friend with this same problem. He was trying to reinstall his original XP followed by the service pack and it was failing exactly as described here. I brought him a full install of XP with SP2 embedded and it worked fine. Many thanks for posting the solution! Presumably one of the newer devices he’s installed since the last installation requires SP2.

  25. stevec says:

Sorry, I posted my response on the wrong site. But the problem I refer to reveals one more benefit a full install including the service pack. The original XP won’t install properly with some newer devices attached.
