Zattoo Insufficient Bandwidth Message

The message Insufficient Bandwidth is popping up regularly when viewing Internet TV with Zattoo lately even when I use my 16 Mbit line exclusively for the Zattoo stream. I’m pretty confident that the insufficient bandwidth message is not caused by my connection which was confirmed by asking my friends to use Zattoo as well. They did tell me that they have received the same message.

Insufficient bandwidth means that there is not enough bandwidth available to transport all the date from the Zattoo server to the client PC. The effect is a distorted pictures from time to time that is showing artifacts and interrupted sounds.

The major problem with this error message is that you cannot change the quality settings currently in Zattoo. It sometimes helps to switch the channel for a few seconds and go back to the channel that did display the insufficient bandwidth message. It happened more than once that the message will not appear again. That’s unfortunately the only fix that I was able to find for this problem.

  1. Helen says:

The message probably appears because the video signal travels through an overloaded network node on the way from the Zattoo server to your computer, where the bandwidth lowers below our warning threshold. This can happen also if your connection to
the Internet provider is a broadband one (16 Mbps in your case).

The insufficient-bandwidth messages however should not prevent you from using Zattoo. They are only meant to inform you that the quality of the video or audio signal might degrade.

We can try to find out what kind of connection we have to your provider and see if we can change anything to it, if you tell us who your provider is.

Cheers from Helen, Comms Manager at Zattoo

Helen you are right that the video and audio was still playing although the message appeared. I don’t think it’s necessary to check on the connection but thanks for the offer.
