Access Pandora without a proxy

Pandora is a music service only available to users from the United States that is creating radio stations starting with an artist or song the user recommends and adding related artists and songs to that. It was free for everyone some time ago but due to rights issues it was restricted.

The usual method to access Pandora is to use a proxy that is located in the United States so that Pandora believes that you are from there to. A far better solution was posted in the comments of this blog yesterday.

Global Pandora offers the Pandora interface on a independent website that requires no registration. Just enter a song or artist and a radio station will be build and you can listen to it. All without using a proxy, hiding your real IP or registration.

global pandora

It even offers way to create an account and share music with your friends. All the choices that you have at the original Pandora website as well. I did no try those though and would be cautious to use them. This service is great but it would mean that you would enter your login data, like email, username and password on their site and this is a security risk.

Wow – I’m listening now. What a great way to discover music!
Do you know why Pandora was blocked for users outside the U.S? Seems silly to me.

  2. Jerusalem Joe: The company has been unable to reach music licensing agreements in countries beside the US, although that’s not for lack of trying. Pandora just recently had to shut down service in the UK.

  3. When I click the link, I get redirected to pandora.com. Can anyone confirm that this works outside of the US?

  4. Martin says:

Brad you are probably redirected because you are from the US. Try a non-US proxy, oh the irony :P

Oh, and yes, I can confirm that.

  5. Murray says:

Thank you! I’ve missed Pandora since they closed access to Canada.

The ironic thing about the licensing issues is that I discovered more artists via Pandora (and subsequently bought their albums) than any other way. So the closing of access resulted in me buying far fewer albums.

    Great blog!

Works fine for me. Been listening to it all day, no time-out or anything. Thanks for the tip.

You write: “This service is great but it would mean that you would enter your login data, like email, username and password on their site and this is a security risk.”
I wonder – why is it a security risk?

  8. Martin says:

Henrik because they are obviously only acting as a proxy for Pandora. This means that they have access to the data that you enter which is a risk. I’m not saying that they will use that data against you but the possibility exists.

That’s why I spoke of a security risk. Not a huge problem if you use a username, password at Pandora that’s totally unique though.

I am in the UK and originally registered using a disposable e-mail address via http://www.spamgourmet.com which was accepted although I found I didn`t need to log in using Global and all previously created “stations” were all still there. Yippeeeee!!

  10. Damocles says:

Within the space of an hour I seem to have lost it. Was OK. Now getting a box from Pandora that says: “We`re having unexpected technical difficulties. Our engineers are scrambling to fix things. Please try again later”. I`ve seen this previously. Has it been blocked?

  11. Eric says:

All the proxy solutions seem to be displaying the message “We`re having unexpected technical difficulties. Our engineers are scrambling to fix things. Please try again later”

I can only assume that they have implemented a block for proxies … I do wonder if they now require you to install a small client program on your machine as I did see a rather strange message suggesting this just prior to the constant ‘unexpected technical difficulties’ message

Unfortunatly all voices across the web regrading this appear to have fallen silent. Any feedback from anyone in the know would be welcomed

w’nkers. a viable alternative to the £10 cd and the record companies cut it off. they are shooting themselves in the feet and driving web enabled music lovers to the p2p networks….

  13. k9wazere says:

I used Pandora as a music discovery service. Found some great bands like Seether that way.

Now, if I want to find bands who are not signed up to big labels, such as the EMIs and BMGs of the world, I have no choice really but to torrent albums on mass, until I find something I like.

So basically this is a huge victory for Torrent sites. Hooray for piracy. Arrh!

  14. to k9wazere says:

lmao. seether might have 1 good song, but it doesn’t change crap into good.

anyway…. how safe is the Vidalia Bundle or something ?

  15. Proxy Kid says:

My teacher talked about this in school last week.

  16. Manuel says:

Piracy is a consecquence of the greedy discographic companies. Blind fools, the more they seclude contents, the more pirates are ecouraged to distribute and find the way to screw them.
    (sorry about my english)

  17. Darkanias says:

I can’t find this radio anywhere on globalpandora! Did they take it down? Please let me know :(

  18. David says:

Now can’t get Pandora successfully at all. Looks like it’s loading properly, but when it’s almost complete, the animated “cover details” that scroll along don’t move, with just one edge showing on the right hand side and eventually I get a box that says “It’s taking longer than expected to figure out the perfect song to play next. The music should be playing soon, but if you get tired of waiting, try switching to one of your other stations.” That’s it. It never goes away, as it has done in the past. I’ve done the recommendations in Pandoras’s FAQ re. flash but no joy. I’ve also noticed that my log-in details aren’t being remembered either. (connected?). Have the same problem from all my computers using either “Open Pandora” (the stand-alone dedicated mini-”browser”) IE or Firefox, so I’m assuming it must be something odd about the proxy I’m using. Any suggestions?

    • Darkanias says:

David, how were you able to access it in the first place?

      • David says:

I deliberately withheld the proxy name, as I didn’t want it barred but that seems to have completely gone down the pan now. The error message has changed to the common one about “technical difficulties” that seems to pop up on every proxy now.

  19. MAt says:

where do I click to listen to pandora outside usa. I’m in canada. I don’t see any link and when I click on globale pandora, I don’t know what to do next ! I need help

    • David says:

I don’t think there is anything that works successfully now. Every devious method seems to be blocked. If anyone knows anything different please post!
