If you want a breakdown of the music that you favor you can use a software called WTF!? Music Info which analyzes a directory that contains music and displays a chart sorting the music by genre, artist or year. The application was designed for the Donation Coder Nany 2008 challenge and you can find additional software on the official website.
Scanning of my huge directory took only a few seconds and the chart was quickly generated showing that Johnny Cash was on top with a massive lead followed by Elvis, the Beatles and the Center for Educational Development. It is possible to change the limit of positions that are displayed. Instead of displaying the top 10 you can go for the top 20 and even the top 100 is working. It has a display problem however if you choose a high limit, the maximum that I was able to display with corresponding genre or artist names was 41 entries.
It also reminded me that I had 174 non tagged mp3s in my collection and roughly 800 where the artist was tagged as mp3. At least I have something to do right now after finishing this article, hehe. Non-tagged files can be removed from being counted in the program options.
