Welcome to the first Software Updates article in the year 2008. I continue this successful series of articles in this year due to demand by many of my readers. Software Updates takes a look at all applications that have been mentioned at Ghacks previously to see if they have been updated in the last week.
If they have been updated I will list them in this article. Only software that is Open Source or free will be mentioned and you can rest assured that I will write about new programs that have emerged in the last week in a separate article.
You will not miss any great new software releases and updates this way. If a release has slipped through my bookmarks and RSS feeds let me know about it so that I can add it the list of observed programs.

7-Zip 4.58 Alpha 1 – an excellent packer.
Azureus 3.0.4.2 – Java Bittorrent client.
BitComet 20071216 Beta – a fast Bittorrent client.
Buddi 3.0.0.0 – a personal accounting software.
DVDFab HD Decrypter 4.0.3.0 – Rip DVD movies to your hard drive and get rid of protections on the way.
FileZilla Server 0.9.25 – create your own ftp server with this software.
foobar2000 0.9.5 Final – after all the beta releases in the last weeks the final version has been released. Great software music player.
IE7pro 2.0 Beta 5 – a must have add-on for Internet Explorer 7.
Locate 3.0.7.12310 Beta – in my opinion the best search replacement for Windows. Finds everything and is blazingly fast.
Malwarebytes Anti-Malware 0.85 Beta – a malware scanner. Fast and good.
MediaCoder 0.6.0.3999 – universal audio and video transcoder.
Mp3tag 2.39l Beta – a fantastic MP3 tagger.
Notepad++ 4.7 – A notepad replacement that I use. Wonderful application, great for coding purposes.
Paint.NET 3.22.2918 Beta – free alternative to Photoshop and GIMP.
SpeedFan 4.34 Beta 37 – You can control fan speeds with Speed Fan. This is great if you want to reduce the noise level of your computer.
Transfz 1.15 Beta – launch online searches from any document, e.g. notepad.
Vista Codec Package version 4.5.6 BETA 1 – Add support for many popular video and audio formats with this codec package for Windows Vista.
WildBit Viewer 5.1 Beta 3.0 – Wildbit is a popular image viewer.
