Insecure and buggy OS needs an insecure and buggy browser? I used Opera in Win95 around 2001 or so - it had tabs and session management (a must since W95 was not exactly stable). PNG alpha channel support in 2001 too, I believe it was several years before IE had even just PNG support without alpha channel, Opera was also first one to (as far as I know) to support tabs - IE7 "introduced" tabs years after all major players had included those (and even text-console browser, eLinks, had tabs before IE). Mouse gestures, easy & fast keyboard only navigation so no matter if your hand was on mouse or keyboard you didn't have to move it between them.
Was stable too. This was in year 2001 I said (though could have been late 2000 too), the same year IE6 was released but before that, so it was IE 5.5, NetScape or Opera for me back then - and had there been no Opera I would have chosen Netscape (and stick with it also after IE6 came around).
There is no reason to run IE6 - it's probably an old computer too which is one more reason to rather use Opera - an old version (hey, IE6 is from 2001, does it matter if the alternative is old too?) is guaranteed to be lighter than IE6, maybe even some newer ones than one from 2001 but I would not try latest versions.... Opera is still light and fast but if the computer has WinME then it probably is not exactly speedy gonzales.
Btw, FF is much slower but Chrome is a humongous memory hog compared to it. I have over 120 tabs open in FF and always at least 500 (often more) free of my 1GB RAM - With Chrome having only ~30 tabs open (and no other programs running) I had only 200M RAM free...

IE6 with Win ME? If you have 5 tabs open it uses almost as much ram as having 5 instances of ie6 open. That said, Opera is beautiful.

IE7 and Firefox are only memory hogs when you go overboard with multiple tabs. I still have to check out Opera though.

Some also use IE6 because IE7 is a piece of garbage and FireFox is a memory whore. Some users are still working with Internet Explorer 6 also because they still use Windows Millenium, wich IE7 is not compatible with.

Hi Martin,

Some users are still working with Internet Explorer 6 also because they still use Windows Millenium, wich IE7 is not compatible with.
