Since today all outgoing links from commenters had the nofollow attribute attached which meant that the link was not used by search engines to determine the rank of that website. It also meant that the Pagerank was not passed to the website that was mentioned in the comments.
I decided to install a plugin that removes the NoFollow attribute from author links posted in the comments if that author has commented at least ten times on my blog. This means that your blog or website will receive so called link juice from my blog if you comment here regularly.
Trackbacks and Pingbacks will also benefit from this which means that if you write about an article on my blog and send a trackback or pingback that this will also have the NoFollow attribute removed.
I did this mainly to give something back to the readers that write a lot of comments and to encourage even more comments and links that point to my blog.
This could increase the spam level but I do check every comment, trackback and pingback manually which probably means that I have to work a bit more. Still, spam will not make it into the comments.

Thanks.
That’s a very good idea. I’ll do the same on my blog.
You know, for the longest time I was really hesitant about putting in that plugin because of fear from Google.
Now I’ve been hit with a 0 PR anyway for doing PPPs so it’s kind of ironic.
BTW, Congrats on going FT!
Yeah..I think this is a great idea too.
Thanks for this information.

Welcome to the club!
And for the right reasons.
Spam should be controlled by plugins like Akismet or SpamKarma.
Useful comments should be rewarded. Well done.
Yep, got it on my blog too. Good stuff, more people should implement it.
