Yeah installing rc1 was a big mistake it didn't allow me to access my network printer or control panel. Any of you guys know how to access the "view installed updates" through command console or otherwise because the rc1 doesn't open the "view installed updates" so i can't remove it and i forgot to backup my os before installing.

Only thing i can suggest is a backup of your stuff and a clean install of the operating system.

I know its a real ache with the sp1 at the moment and i've come across a problem with it which seems to affect the internet conncetion sharing between two computers. i dont know if any1 else has found this problem...?

I removed the SP1 RC1 using the installed updates link in programs and features and was successfull.

The moment i put it back in it happens all over again.

I have even tried a clean install on both computers and still no luck, only happens with the SP1. i hope Microsoft sort this issue out before they release the service pack to the public or theres gunna be a lot of trouble lol.

but if you cant install or uninstall the service pack and has caused unwanted changes to your system i recommend a system restore then full backup and clean install.

I hope an RC2 does come out soon and that these problems have been dealt with because, in my opinion, releasing the service pack as it is now is only going to cause Windows Vista more agro.

if anybody needs any 1 to 1 help just add me onto windows live messenger and i'll be happy to help ssteberis@hotmail.co.uk

I had heard an RC2 was coming first, so I am not sure - but RC1 is definitely off my list.

John L Gault wrote "I did that. I still had the same problems as before. I installed it both times the correct way and uninstalled it both times the correct way."

The full version is supposed to be out the 3rd week of January...if you can wait maybe that will fix the problem for you.

I restored windows to what I had previously before the update then I "Hid the Update" like suggested above and it seemed to work. I called Gateway(because I have free support through them and Microsoft charges) and they said they've had a lot of inquiries about the same issues I was having and there wasn't much they could do and to contact Microsoft. That's why I came here because I wasn't going to pay Microsoft for a issue that was their fault.

@Invisible - System Restore is ***not*** the way to do it - you still have the files there and will likely hose your system if you cannot restore *back* to after the SP1 install.

To uninstall the SP1, you go to Control Panel --> Programs and Features --> Installed Updates (left hand navigation area) and then select Service Pack (KB936330).

See http://www.windowsvistaplace.com/how-to-uninstall-vista-sp1-beta/windows-vista-tips for a more detailed explanation.

@Bucfan - haven't seen that one before - did you try installing it again?

@Juicy - you need to hide that update. Go to Windows Update, search for updates, then when it lists all the updates, right click the Service Pack update and select Hide select updates. Then install the rest and then turn on automatic updates again. Also, if you are using System Restore to remove the update, don't - use the instructions I posted above to *remove* SP1.

@all - I tried the SP1 a second time, and I had the same experiences as Juicy - absolute terrible slow down in boot time and shutdown time, and various other issues as well. I have uninstalled it a second time and will not install RC1 again.

I hope someone can help me. I downloaded and installed the update. It messed my computer up a lot. Everything was slow boot time was 10-20 minutes. My computer is brand new, I have a 64 bit processor and 4gb ram(but I only have 32bit windows as of now) so I restored windows to the way it was previously and told myself I wouldn't make the mistake again. I woke up in the morning and it was install again because I forgot to turn auto updates off. So i restored windows to the previous form again and turned updates off. Now I have 7 updates ready to install but everytime I install one it asks to reboot my computer and when I reboot the installation of sp1 starts. Is there a way to delete the downloaded update? It is sitting in my windows update waiting to be installed. I want to delete what has been downloaded...

I installed the Releaser Candidate, sort of.

It goes through the whole install. All 3 steps. Then it tells me it was not installed and it is reverting to the previous version. What is that about?

Ye. One thing i can say I have learnt from Microsoft is that thier software is quite unpredictable.

I'm always one for never giving up and messing about with thier software so when things mess up, i just do it again... and again... and again... untill i get bored lol

Hmm, you think so? I have access to another system, but was loathe to try it on that system for fear of the same thing happening.

But, now that you mention it, I do believe there was a problem installing it the first time, and after a reboot I had to restart the installation it hung somewhere in the middle of either downloading it or installing it....

I suppose I will have another go at it sometime in the next week.

BTW - added you.

I had to uninstall it - for some reason after installing the SP1 RC1 my system took an inordinate amount of time to boot - 5-7 minutes versus usually no more than a minute pre SP1. Same thing on shutdown.

As soon as I uninstalled the SP1 my boot times went back to normal.

I have tried several times to install SP1 rc1, but the installation fails. When I download the file driectly from MS, it goes through and hour of install then fails. Via MS Windows Update, I ran your .bat file, then went to Windows Update and started the install. All looks well until I get an error code 80073712. I have Vista Business, did not install the beta sp1, and am dying to get a more stable Vista. Any ideas?
