While trying to find and all-in-one feed reader solution I got frustrated and decided to go with the simple and the best, Google Reader. While it doesn’t sport the sleekest, most awesome web 2.0 design I’ve ever seen it is clean and usable. I have just discovered a new link added, “discover”, which shows you recommended feeds.
I’m always a skeptic when it comes to automatic recommendations, I probably get the weirdest results you’ve ever seen, but the one built into Reader is great. I am subscribed to a lot of tech blogs like gHacks, and it did show me many more like it (of course neither one could compete with the super-awesomeness of gHacks).
A great bonus is that it is compatible with different languages. I have a subscription to the largest Hungarian news portal, and it recommended about 3-4 of the other big ones, which is pretty darned impressive in my opinion. If this wasn’t enough, they introduced another welcome addition besides this.
It is now possible to manage your feeds using a drag and drop method. You won’t see this change, everything looks the same, but click on a feed and drag it about and you can now place it anywhere without clicking through anything.
My usual problem with any web service is that you can’t use it as easily as desktop apps. With these new techniques they are becoming more and more like you were doing something on your desktop. I think these services are very near the point where I will just move everything online, this is probably Google’s plan. Thumbs up Google Reader, I hope they don’t stop the updates!

Now that is interesting. If the recommendations work that well I might give it a try ;)
